So Yeon Ryu shoots 65 for 1-shot lead in Toto Japan Classic
SHIGA, Japan (AP) — So Yeon Ryu shot a 7-under 65 to take a one-shot lead after the first round of the Toto Japan Classic.
Nasa Hataoka of Japan and South Koreans Jiyai Shin and In-Kyung Kim were a stroke back after rounds of 66 on Friday. Ten other players were within three shots of the lead in the 54-hole tournament at the Seta Golf Club.
Ryu had five birdies on the last eight holes to underline her quick start.
Angel Yin wins Omega Dubai Ladies Classic
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — American Angel Yin won the Omega Dubai Ladies Classic in a playoff Sunday, beating South Korea's In-Kyung Kim with a birdie on the second extra hole.
The 19-year-old Yin won with a tap-in birdie on the drivable 17th hole. The victory in the Ladies European Tour season finale is her first on a major tour.
Park fires 63, uses fresh start to lead Evian major
EVIAN-LES-BAINS, France (AP) — Sung Hyun Park took full advantage of a fresh start to the Evian Championship on Friday, firing an 8-under 63 to lead the rescheduled first round by three shots.
That meant a 14-shot turnaround for the No. 3-ranked Park, who had been 6 over through five holes in the rain and wind on Thursday morning. Play was abandoned and all scores wiped from the record, leaving the fifth and final women's major as a 54-hole event.
LPGA Tour cancels tournament in Shanghai next month
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — The LPGA Tour has canceled its event next month in China because of permitting problems.
The Alisports LPGA was set for Oct. 5-8 in Shanghai.
"Unfortunately, we have just received word that the tournament was unsuccessful in obtaining approval from the local district government," LPGA Tour Commissioner Mike Whan said Tuesday. "The hardest part about this news is that we have a title sponsor, a tournament operator, a TV production group and a host venue all set to go."
SYLVANIA, Ohio (AP) — In-Kyung Kim rallied to win the Marathon Classic on Sunday to become the second two-time winner this season on the LPGA Tour.
Two strokes behind 18-year-old Nelly Korda entering the round, Kim birdied six of the first nine holes and finished with an 8-under 63 for a four-stroke victory over Lexi Thompson.
GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — In-Kyung Kim held off two-time defending champion Anna Nordqvist on Sunday in the ShopRite LPGA Classic for her fifth tour title.
Tied with Paula Creamer for the second-round lead, Kim closed with a 2-under 69 in windy conditions for a two-stroke victory over Nordqvist at Stockton Seaview.
"Just so windy. ... It was tough," Kim said. "I feel really pleased with how I played today. Was really tricky and challenge out there, but I gave my best."
GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — Ariya Jutanugarn took the No. 1 spot in the world ranking without hitting a shot, and Paula Creamer and In-Kyung Kim topped the ShopRite LPGA Classic leaderboard Saturday.
Taking the week off, Jutanugarn replaced Lydia Ko atop the ranking when So Yeon Ryu missed the cut. Ko, also skipping the event, was guaranteed to lose the top spot to Jutanugarn or Ryu, and Jutanugarn got the position when Ryu failed to finish solo third or better.
KAPOLEI, Hawaii (AP) — Ariya Jutanugarn and In-Kyung Kim each birdied their final hole Thursday to share the lead during the suspended second round of the LPGA Lotte Championship.
Jutanugarn had a bogey-free 6-under 66, and Kim shot 64 to reach 9-under 135 at Ko Olina Golf Club. Jutanugarn won five times last season and was the LPGA Tour's player of the year.
