WALNUT, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say a 9-year-old Nebraska boy has died in a crash off icy Interstate 80 in western Iowa.
The accident was reported about 10:30 p.m. Sunday near the town of Walnut. The Iowa State Patrol says the vehicle was headed when it slid off the slickened roadway and rolled onto its passenger side in a ditch.
The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. The patrol identified him as Joshua Tavares, who lived in Grand Island, Nebraska.
Man charged with drunken driving in collision that killed 2
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A 37-year-old driver has been charged in the crash deaths of two people on Interstate 80 in Des Moines.
Polk County court records say Travis Gonzales, of Bondurant, is charged with two counts of vehicular homicide while under the influence, two counts of vehicular homicide while driving recklessly, and operating while intoxicated. The records don't list the name of an attorney who could comment for him.

The patrol says the collision occurred about 10 p.m. Saturday when a pickup truck driven by 37-year-old Travis Gonzales, of Bondurant, struck Gainuss' car from behind. Both vehicles went into a ditch, where Gainuss' car struck a tree.

TAMA, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say a woman died when a deer crashed through a vehicle windshield in eastern Iowa.
The accident occurred about 5:20 p.m. Sunday on U.S. Highway 30, about 6 miles (8 kilometers) east of Tama. The Iowa State Patrol says 24-year-old Amy Smith, of West Des Moines, was driving east when she hit the animal and it went through the windshield. The deer struck and killed her passenger, 57-year-old Donna Smith, of Walford.

Iowa public safety commissioner will step down next month
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa's top public safety official says she's informed Gov. Kim Reynolds that she will be leaving her job next month.
Department of Public Safety Commissioner Roxann Ryan told employees in an email Friday that she'll step down Jan. 2 after leading the department for four years.
She says she's proud of progress that's been made in the department, which includes the Iowa State Patrol, the Division of Criminal Investigation and other public safety units.
Patrol says Nebraska, Colorado women died in Iowa collision
BLENCOE, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say a Nebraska woman driving south in the northbound lanes of Interstate 29 in western Iowa has collided with an oncoming vehicle. The crash killed both drivers.
The Iowa State Patrol says 40-year-old Angela Bender, of Omaha, Nebraska, was driving the southbound minivan late Wednesday night when the collision occurred near Blencoe in Monona County. The other driver killed was identified as 51-year-old Carolyn Klimper, who lived in Fort Morgan, Colorado.

OSCEOLA, Iowa (AP) — The Iowa State Patrol says a pregnant woman and her 2-year-old stepson have died in a crash in south-central Iowa.
Television station KCRG reports that the crash happened Friday evening in Clarke County, about 9 miles south of Osceola. The patrol says 22-year-old Bethannie Kennedy, of Osceola, was driving south on U.S. 69 when she lost control, went sideways and was broadsided by a northbound pickup truck.

The patrol identified the car driver as 47-year-old Vincent Seaver, of Hamilton, Illinois. The SUV driver's name hasn't been released.
