NEW YORK (AP) — Pookie Powell made the last of La Salle's season-high 14 3-pointers with 35 seconds remaining to help the Explorers hold off Fordham for a 73-71 victory on Wednesday night.
Powell's jumper with 2:36 to play stretched the Explorers' lead to 70-62 with 2:36 left. Jalen Cobb scored on a layup and Nick Honor hit a 3-pointer to pull Fordham to 70-67 with 1:11 to play before Powell hit the decisive 3.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — DJ Williams scored 14 points, Terry Nolan added 12 points and 10 rebounds and George Washington bounced back from a miserable first half to take a 59-56 victory over La Salle on Wednesday night.
Justin Mazzulla added 11 points and Maceo Jack 10 for the Colonials (6-11, 2-2 Atlantic 10), who have won four of their last five games. After shooting just 16 percent and trailing 23-14 at halftime, the Colonials bounced back to shoot 68 percent in the second half.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — B.J. Johnson and Amar Stukes combined to score 48 points and Saul Phiri grabbed 12 rebounds to carry LaSalle past Massachusetts, 87-72 in an Atlantic 10 showdown on Wednesday night.
LaSalle ran off to a 20-point lead by intermission, 47-27, and cruised home.
The Explorers (9-12, 3-5) shot a brisk 55 percent from the field in the game, knocking down 33 of 60 shots, including 7 of 20 from long range.
KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) — E.C. Matthews scored a season-best 24 points and grabbed six rebounds and Rhode Island notched its fifth-straight win, topping La Salle 74-62 in an Atlantic 10 Conference matchup on Wednesday night.
Matthews was 10 of 17 from the field including three 3-pointers for the Rams (10-3, 2-0). Jared Terrell added 14 points, five rebounds and four steals and Cyril Langevine had 11 points and five rebounds.
The team had 10 steals contributing to 19 La Salle turnovers.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — B.J. Johnson scored 25 points, Pookie Powell scored 24 and La Salle beat Mercer 95-85 on Sunday.
La Salle (6-6) made 16 of 29 3-pointers (55 percent) and were two made 3s away from the school record set on three occasions. The Explorers finished shooting 54 percent (31 of 57) overall.
Isiah Deas made back-to-back 3s, Johnnie Schuler added a 3 and Johnson scored the next seven points with a 3 and four free throws as the Explorers built an early 24-13 lead.

BELFAST, Northern Ireland (AP) — B.J. Johnson scored 15 points, including two free throws with 1.7 seconds left, and La Salle held off Holy Cross 58-54 on Saturday in the consolation game of the inaugural Basketball Hall of Fame Belfast Classic.
Pookie Powell, who had 13 points, hit two 3-pointers during an early 8-0 in the second half to give the Explorers (5-4) a 42-26 lead. But in the final 15 minutes, La Salle made just four more baskets and the Crusaders (2-5) charged back.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — B.J. Johnson had 30 points and 10 rebounds to help La Salle beat South Alabama 81-73 on Thursday night.
La Salle led 65-44 midway through the second half until South Alabama scored 14 straight. Johnson ended the run with a put-back basket to make it 67-58 with 7:03 left.
Rodrick Sikes pulled South Alabama within 78-73 but Amar Stukes answered with a 3-pointer with 1:04 left.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Jordan Price scored 18 points with four 3-pointers, Pookie Powell added 16 points and five assists, and La Salle made 20 second-half free throws to beat Duquesne 88-81 on Saturday night to win its second straight.
B.J. Johnson also scored 18, Isiah Deas scored 11, and Demetrius Henry had 10 with 10 rebounds for the Explorers (8-5, 2-1 Atlantic 10), who made 24 of 25 free throws (96 percent).
