Murder charges filed against 5 in death of Georgia girl
GUYTON, Ga. (AP) — Murder charges have been filed against five adults in the death of a 14-year-old girl whose body was buried in the yard of her father's home in Guyton, Georgia.
News outlets are reporting that the girl's father, Elwyn Crocker Sr., his wife, brother-in-law, mother-in-law and mother-in-law's boyfriend are now charged with felony murder in addition to cruelty to children.

GUYTON, Ga. (AP) — The discovery of two children found dead and buried in their father's backyard in Guyton, Georgia, has prompted a state agency to take historical reports of abuse more seriously.

Cavaliers, J.R. Smith parting ways amid stormy season
CLEVELAND (AP) — J.R. Smith's bumpy-but-never-boring stay with the Cleveland Cavaliers is over.
The team said Tuesday that the disgruntled forward, who had requested to be traded earlier this season, "will no longer be with team as the organization works with JR and his representation regarding his future."
The Cavaliers will try to trade Smith. He will make $14.7 million this season, and $3.8 million of his $15.6 million salary for next season is guaranteed.

HOMESTEAD, Fla. (AP) — Joey Logano raced into NASCAR anointed as its next star. He was 18, dubbed "Sliced Bread" because of all the hype, and in way over his head.
It made Logano an easy target on and off the track and threatened his career. Logano was out of a job five years after he arrived but given a second chance by Roger Penske, the titans of motorsports.
Now he's part of Penske's storied history as NASCAR's newest champion.

LaVine, Archidiacono help Bulls edge Cavs 99-98
CHICAGO (AP) — Zach LaVine delivered another solid effort for Chicago, yet his only turnover of the game nearly cost the Bulls a victory.
LaVine scored 24 points, rookie Ryan Arcidiacono added 15 and the Bulls rebounded after blowing an early 16-point lead to edge the Cleveland Cavaliers 99-98 on Saturday night.
Wendell Carter Jr. also had 15 points as Chicago won for the second time in six games.
Unhappy JR Smith wants Cavaliers to trade him
CLEVELAND (AP) — J.R. Smith has added another tier to the Cavaliers' mounting troubles.
Dropped from the rotation and unhappy with his role on a team rebuilding through youth, Smith said Thursday that he wants to be traded. The enigmatic guard said he hasn't formally requested a trade by Cleveland's front office because the Cavs are already aware of his feelings.

Elliott Sadler to stop racing full-time after season
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Elliott Sadler won't race full-time in NASCAR after this season, ending a stretch of 21 years with a ride in one of NASCAR's top series.
Elliott is 43 and currently drives for JR Motorsports in the Xfinity Series. He said Wednesday he'd like to spend more time with his two young children.
Justin Allgaeir wins NASCAR Xfiinity race at Mid-Ohio
LEXINGTON, Ohio (AP) — Justin Allgaier used fresh tires to pass rookie Austin Cindric with four laps left and win the NASCAR Xfinity Series race Saturday at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
Allgaier used the sixth restart of the race to squeeze by Cindric on Turn 1, then held off his challenge on the 72nd lap for his third series win of the year. He also won at Dover and Iowa for JR Motorsport.
He was seventh for the last restart on Lap 69 but had used the caution to replace all four tires.

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (AP) — JR Harris' uncle told an employee a story about the origins of the gob. He said a worker for his family's bakery was on break. They were permitted to make and eat anything they wanted to at the bakery.
"He had two small chocolate cakes and put icing in between," Harris said. "And then the company saw what he had done and started doing what he did with the gob cake."

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Three Mississippi men could face the death penalty if they're convicted of conspiring to kill a police informant who witnessed drug dealing that had already led to criminal charges.
Authorities say one of the defendants coordinated the conspiracy from jail.
An indictment filed June 27 accuses 26-year-old Aubrey Maurice Jordan, 39-year-old Monroe L. Hughes III and 26-year-old Cortez Lakeith Byrd of conspiring to kill Anton Ford. All the men are Meridian residents.
NEWTON, Iowa (AP) — Justin Allgaier won all three stages and the NASCAR Xfinity Series race Sunday at Iowa Speedway for his second victory of the season.

Police say Amherst patrolman Eugene "JR" Ptacek was shot Thursday night when authorities tried to enter a man's house after he refused to come out for several hours or talk with negotiators.
Ptacek was flown to a Cleveland hospital where he underwent surgery. Amherst's police chief says Ptacek is a 17-year veteran of the department.

Closing arguments, jury deliberations set for Monday to end Abbott murder trial
Jurors hearing testimony in the murder trial of Emerson Mack Abbott Jr., will wait until Monday to hear closing arguments before beginning deliberations toward a verdict.
Abbott is accused of killing James Steven Reeves, 69, and his wife Myra Reeves, 71, in January of 2015. The couple was shot to death at their home on Terhune Road.
The defense called just two witnesses to the stand Friday before resting it's case.

JR Hospitality has unveiled plans to build two hotels in one building near Target Center and the Hennepin Avenue theater district.
The Eagan-based development firm wants to construct a 115-room Cambria Hotel and 100-room Fairfield Inn Suites side by side but with different entrances on Hawthorne Avenue between 10th and 11th streets.
