Knee injury sidelines Buccaneers LB Alexander for season
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Tampa Bay's struggling defense will be without middle linebacker Kwon Alexander for the remainder of the season.
The fourth-year pro was injured during the first half of Sunday's 26-23 overtime victory over the Cleveland Browns.
A MRI performed Monday confirmed that the 24-year-old, a fourth-round draft pick in 2015, has a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
Buccaneers believe defensive holes filled in draft
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers believe they accomplished their major goals of upgrading the defensive line and a porous secondary through the draft after going 5-11 and missing the playoffs for the 10th consecutive season.
The Buccaneers added more defensive pieces Saturday, taking Pitt safety Jordan Whitehead in the fourth round and Wisconsin linebacker Jack Cichy during the sixth.
Fortunately, the NFL will be calling Jack Cichy.
It won’t be on Thursday night, during the first round of the 2018 NFL draft. It probably won’t be on Friday, during the second and third rounds. And given his injury history – he hasn’t played in a game since October 2016, thanks to a torn pectoral muscle that ended his junior season and a torn ACL in his right knee that ended his senior season before it began – it’s possible he’ll go undrafted on Saturday during Rounds 4-7.
Former Badgers linebacker Jack Cichy showcases progress at Wisconsin’s Pro Day seven months after ACL tear
Only seven months after an ACL tear ended his University of Wisconsin career, Jack Cichy posted agility-drill numbers Wednesday that could rival almost any draft-eligible linebacker.
Cichy's 20-yard shuttle time (4.19 seconds) and 3-cone drill (6.88) at the Badgers' Pro Day would have both ranked in the top five at his position at the NFL Combine earlier this month. He also posted a 33.5-inch vertical jump.
More than 300 players have been invited to participate in this year’s NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, the NFL announced Tuesday, with national-championship winning Alabama setting the pace among all the schools with 14 participants.
Alabama, Ohio State (11), Georgia (10) and LSU (10) were the only schools to send double-digit players to the Feb. 27 to March 5 event which is a precursor to the NFL draft on April 26.
Badgers football: Jack Cichy ready for uphill path to NFL roster spot
Jack Cichy’s two options after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in August were both far from ideal.
Either attempt to gain a sixth year of eligibility and be stuck in limbo about his future, or attempt a move to the NFL after missing the past 1.5 seasons due to injury without any guarantee he’d even be able to work out for scouts prior to the draft.
Injured Wisconsin LB Jack Cichy to enter NFL draft
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin linebacker Jack Cichy has decided to enter the NFL draft, foregoing a chance to ask the NCAA for a sixth year of eligibility because of a right knee injury.
Cichy announced his decision in a story posted Tuesday on The Players Tribune website. He was announced as one of the team's departing seniors before the sixth-ranked Badgers' regular-season home finale on Nov. 18 against Michigan.
SAN DIEGO -- After more than six decades, the Wisconsin Badgers have finally beaten the Southern California Trojans.
Rafael Gaglianone kicked a 29-yard field goal with 2:27 left to lift No. 23 Wisconsin to a 23-21 victory against Southern California in the Holiday Bowl on Wednesday night.
Gaglianone's third field goal gave Wisconsin (10-3) its first win in seven tries against USC (8-6). The teams hadn't met since 1966, and two of USC's wins in the series were in the Rose Bowl, in 1953 and 1963.

Badgers football notebook: Wisconsin’s fall camp injury list keeps growing
While more severe and long-lasting than the others, Jack Cichy’s torn anterior cruciate ligament is far from the only injury University of Wisconsin football players have endured during the first two weeks of fall camp.
Cichy was ruled out for the 2017 season Thursday, but 14 others were either held out of practice or limited.
That doesn’t include offensive lineman Jason Erdmann, who left practice early Thursday with a right shoulder injury, disrupting a camp where he’s shown significant progress.

Badgers football: Linebackers Ryan Connelly, Leon Jacobs rise with injured Jack Cichy out
The University of Wisconsin football team’s defense has simply played too well this season to be derailed by one injury, but many worried prior to Saturday’s game against No. 7 Nebraska that the unit could look much more ordinary without inside linebacker Jack Cichy, who is out for the season after tearing a pectoral muscle last week at Iowa.
Ryan Connelly and Leon Jacobs, Cichy’s replacements, put a halt to that theory in the Badgers’ overtime victory at Camp Randall Stadium.
