MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin is getting backup quarterback Jack Coan ready to play this weekend at No. 21 Penn State with starter Alex Hornibrook listed as questionable because of another head injury.
Hornibrook was in the concussion protocol for the second time in three weeks after getting hurt in last week's 31-17 victory over Rutgers. Hornibrook's head hit the turf after being sacked on the last play of the first half.

Wisconsin QB Hornibrook has concussion, out vs Northwestern
EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) — Wisconsin quarterback Alex Hornibrook will miss the game against Northwestern because of a concussion. Jack Coan will start in his place.
Hornibrook reported the symptoms on Monday. The junior has completed about 60 percent of his passes for 1,251 yards, 11 touchdowns and six interceptions. Coan appeared in six games as a freshman last season, going 5 of 5 for 36 yards.

University of Wisconsin coach Paul Chryst has decided to make true freshman Jack Coan the Badgers' No. 2 quarterback.
Chryst revealed the news on ESPN Madison's "In the Trenches" radio show Thursday night.
Coan, from Sayville, N.Y., enrolled early and participated in spring practice. He beat out redshirt freshman Kare Lyles for the No. 2 spot behind starter Alex Hornibrook.
Badgers football: Kare Lyles, Jack Coan make progress as Wisconsin’s backup QBs
It was always going to be a slow process with University of Wisconsin quarterbacks Kare Lyles and Jack Coan this offseason.
Lyles, a redshirt freshman, got a late start last year after being injured throughout spring practice. Coan enrolled this January and spent the past seven months integrating himself into the Badgers’ system.
