Leafs’ Auston Matthews out 4 weeks with shoulder injury
TORONTO (AP) — Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews, the NHL's second-leading goal-scorer this season, is expected to miss at least four weeks because of an injured left shoulder.
The 21-year-old center was placed on injured reserve Monday but will not need surgery. He was injured early in the second period Saturday during Toronto's 3-2 victory over Winnipeg.
"It's part of the game," he said. "I'm going to work as hard as I can to get back as soon as possible."

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — The Winnipeg Jets didn't get down about a two-goal deficit Monday night.
Bryan Little tied it late in the third period and Jacob Trouba scored in overtime to help the Jets beat the St. Louis Blues 5-4.
Trouba took a pass from Kyle Connor and shot into an open side of the net behind goalie Jake Allen. It was Trouba's first goal of the season.
St. Louis led 3-1 heading into the third before Ben Chiarot and Mark Scheifele got consecutive goals to tie it.

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — Down 3-0 after a disastrous opening 20 minutes, there was no flipping of tables or peeling of paint off the walls in the Winnipeg Jets' locker room.

Coach Paul Maurice says he's going to be cautious with Scheifele with the playoffs a month away. Scheifele is missing his third and fourth consecutive games — Monday night at Washington and Tuesday at Nashville.
The team has not said if this is the same injury that kept him out 16 games earlier this season.

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — Bryan Little is pretty impressed by what Blake Wheeler is doing these days for the Winnipeg Jets.
Wheeler moved to center from right wing Dec. 27 when Mark Scheifele was injured. In four full games since then, the Winnipeg captain has five goals.

It was Hellebuyck's second shutout of the season and fourth of his career. The victory also extended Winnipeg's home victories to four straight.

TORONTO (AP) — Every day over the summer, Johnny Gaudreau thought about not having a contract.
Gaudreau worried about it and obsessed over it but he wasn't going to let stalled negotiations with the Calgary Flames keep him from playing in the World Cup of Hockey.
"You don't get many chances to play in the World Cup," Gaudreau said. "So I was like, 'Let's get some insurance and I really want to play in this tournament.'"
