Luck remains confident in making all throws for Colts
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — After Andrew Luck quickly moved the Indianapolis Colts into position for one final, desperation heave Sunday at Philadelphia, he came out.
With 5 seconds left and Indy at its 46-yard line, coach Frank Reich put in Jacoby Brissett.
In some respects, the move made perfect sense. Brissett had the stronger arm and given the slim chance of winning the game on such a play, it didn't make sense to risk everything with someone returning from major shoulder surgery.

Brisett hoping to take advantage of final preseason chance
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Jacoby Brissett views Thursday night's preseason finale a little differently than everyone else.
He considers this seemingly meaningless game his golden ticket.
With Andrew Luck's work finished, Brissett is expected to make his first and possibly final start of the season at Cincinnati. And if all goes well for the Indianapolis Colts, Brissett may not even throw another official pass this year.
Colts down to 3 quarterbacks after injured Kaaya waived
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indianapolis Colts have signed cornerback Juante Baldwin and placed quarterback Brad Kaaya on the waived-injured list.
Kaaya did not play in Monday night's loss to Baltimore and missed practice with a back injury Thursday. If he clears waivers, he will revert to the injured reserve list.
SEATTLE (AP) — Defensive end Cliff Avril was released by the Seattle Seahawks on Friday with a failed physical designation due to a neck injury that cost him most of the 2017 season.
Avril's release was expected and likely means the end of a 10-year career during which he was a standout player for the Seahawks and the Detroit Lions.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina State redshirt senior quarterback Jalan McClendon will play elsewhere next season as a graduate transfer.
The school announced McClendon's decision Monday. He is scheduled to graduate in May and has a year of eligibility remaining.
Colts lose another close one in frustrating 3-12 season
BALTIMORE (AP) — The game played out as many had before, complete with an ending that was both predictable and painstakingly familiar.
If you're a fan of the Colts, then you're quite used to this scenario: Indianapolis keeps the game tantalizingly close, gets into position to pull out a win and then falls short.
Campbell breaks Jaguars’ sacks record in 30-10 win vs Colts
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Malik Jackson was first to reach Indianapolis Colts quarterback Jacoby Brissett on this play.
Brissett slipped out of Jackson's diving arm tackle and scrambled right. Yannick Ngakoue was waiting, only to have Brissett spin away from him.
Next up was Calais Campbell, who didn't miss. He rarely does.
Tennessee puts pressure on Colts in 20-16 victory
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Tennessee put more pressure on Indianapolis than it could handle Sunday.
It's happened a lot to the Colts lately.
Quarterback Jacoby Brissett spent most of the day getting up from the turf. The Titans forced a key turnover late in the third quarter and overpowered the Colts in the fourth to rally from a 10-point deficit to a 20-16 victory.
Colts expect to have Brissett back against Tennessee
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Colts quarterback Jacoby Brissett remains in the concussion protocol, but coach Chuck Pagano expects him to play Sunday against Tennessee.
Brissett was injured after getting hit in the head during a Week 10 loss to Pittsburgh. Brissett was first checked on the sideline and then was allowed to return to the game.
Colts hope they can build on 20-14 win over Texans
HOUSTON (AP) — In a difficult season, the Indianapolis Colts hope that their 20-14 win over the Houston Texans on Sunday that snapped a three-game skid can propel them to better results in their last seven games.
"Nobody remembers all the other stuff," receiver T.Y. Hilton said. "November football is different. We wanted to get a win and start off on the right foot."
Colts sense season could be teetering on trip to Cincinnati
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indianapolis desperately wants to flip the script.
Instead of poring over ugly numbers, the Colts find themselves breaking down all the woeful game footage as they continue to deal with injuries.
It's a giant mess.
Just three days after quarterback Jacoby Brissett was sacked 10 times and the defense gave up more than 500 yards, the Colts got back to work Wednesday knowing this season was teetering on the brink.
Colts’ Hilton apologies after criticizing offensive line
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Pro Bowl receiver T.Y. Hilton has apologized to his teammates after criticizing the Indianapolis Colts' offensive line.
After Sunday's 27-0 loss to Jacksonville, Hilton said the linemen need to take more pride in protecting quarterback Jacoby Brissett. The Colts gave up 10 sacks, an Indianapolis era record, and 20 quarterback hits.
The comment didn't go over well with his teammates.
Seahawks expected to place Avril on injured reserve
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Defensive end Cliff Avril is expected to be placed on injured reserve by the Seattle Seahawks as he continues to deal with a neck injury.
Avril was injured three weeks ago in a game against the Indianapolis Colts. While chasing down Colts quarterback Jacoby Brissett, the back of Brissett's foot caught Avril in the chin as he lunged to make the tackle. Avril was seen shaking his arms and flexing his hands after the impact.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Wesley Woodyard squatted and folded his arms as his Tennessee teammates bowed in front of the veteran linebacker near midfield in celebration, deserving every bit of the attention.
Brissett shows some promise, but Colts still miss Luck
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Indianapolis Colts finally have a promising backup quarterback in Jacoby Brissett.
They also miss Andrew Luck.
Brissett showed flashes of his long-term potential during a 36-22 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Monday night, but he also struggled at a couple of key moments.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — No matter the coaches, the players or even the city, one thing remains unchanged when the Indianapolis Colts play the Tennessee Titans.

Colts celebrate Manning’s return with 26-23 win over 49ers
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — After blowing a 14-point lead in the final eight minutes of regulation and surviving an interception in scoring position in overtime, Marlon Mack's 35-yard run set up Adam Vinatieri for a 51-yard field goal as the Indianapolis Colts beat the San Francisco 49ers 26-23 on Sunday.
Colts, 49ers hope to put on good show for Manning’s party
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Jacoby Brissett understands Sunday will be Peyton Manning's show.
The newest Indianapolis Colts quarterback just wants to honor the old one properly — with a winning performance against San Francisco.
"I went to the Peyton Manning camp when I was in college," Brissett said. "I enjoyed watching him growing up and I still do."
Somehow, some way, Brissett has a knack for surrounding himself with success stories.
Great 1st half spirals into blowout loss for Colts
SEATTLE (AP) — Jacoby Brissett and the rest of the Indianapolis Colts played well enough in the first half to hear the home team being booed off the field at halftime.
Those boos didn't last long. It took just a short series of plays in the second half by the Seattle Seahawks to see a potential stunning win for the Colts spiral into a blowout loss.
The Latest: Colts hold surprising 15-10 lead over Seahawks
The Latest on Week 4 of the NFL (all times EDT):
The Indianapolis Colts have a 15-10 lead over the Seattle Seahawks at halftime on Sunday night thanks to a solid first half from Jacoby Brissett.
Brissett was 14 of 20 for 142 yards and an 18-yard touchdown to Donte Moncrief with 25 seconds left in the half. Brissett's one mistake was an underthrown pass that Justin Coleman intercepted and returned 28 yards for Seattle's only touchdown.
Wilson vs. Brissett? It’s the matchup as Seahawks host Colts
SEATTLE (AP) — When the schedule makers provided an opportunity to display the two quarterback stars from the 2012 draft, it seemed obvious to put Indianapolis visiting Seattle in prime time.
Too bad Andrew Luck's right shoulder didn't cooperate.

Brissett gets in sync to lead Colts past Browns 31-28
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Jacoby Brissett needed one game to really get acclimated to running the Colts' offense.
On Sunday, he showed how much he's picked up in three short weeks.
The quarterback, acquired from New England in a Sept. 2 trade, ran for two touchdowns and threw for another then watched the defense hold off Cleveland's late charge for a 31-28 victory — Indy's first of the season.
Brissett seeking 2nd chance as Colts starter
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Jacoby Brissett let Sunday's big mistake linger long enough.
From the moment he threw his first and last pass in overtime, all the Indianapolis Colts' new starting quarterback wanted was a second chance.
So after thinking long and hard about what he could have and should have done differently, the 24-year-old second-year pro intends to make amends this weekend against Cleveland.
FANTASY PLAYS: Taking stock of hurt tight ends, others in W3
Week 2 was tough on tight ends in fantasy football as five big names suffered injuries — none bigger than Greg Olsen of the Panthers breaking his right foot.
Olsen is expected to miss about six to eight weeks after having surgery on Monday. Rob Gronkowski (groin), Jordan Reed (chest), Jimmy Graham (ankle) and Tyler Eifert (back/knee) are all questionable to play this week.
Brissett’s mistake costs Colts in 16-13 OT loss to Cardinals
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Jacoby Brissett showed the Indianapolis Colts he's a pretty quick learner.
They're hoping he's an even better rebounder.
After leading the Colts to 10 points on their first two drives Sunday, the offense bogged down and Brissett made the biggest mistake of the game by throwing an interception on the first play of overtime. The result: Arizona 16, Indianapolis 13.
Palmer rallies Cardinals to steal 16-13 OT win at Indy
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Carson Palmer managed to get the Arizona Cardinals into overtime Sunday. Tyrann Mathieu and Phil Dawson made sure they got out of Indianapolis pretty darn quick.
Mathieu intercepted new Colts quarterback Jacoby Brissett on the first play from scrimmage in the extra period, and Dawson made a 30-yard field goal four plays later to give the Cardinals a 16-13 victory.
Brissett starting for Colts against Cardinals
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Jacoby Brissett will start in place of Scott Tolzien at quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday against Arizona.
The move was officially announced a little more than an hour before kickoff.
He replaces Tolzien, who had two interceptions returned for touchdowns in last week's 46-9 loss. Indy also failed to convert a third down in the loss.
Andrew Luck still has not practiced since having surgery on his throwing shoulder in January.
Colts’ QB situation uncertain after mistake-filled opener
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Indianapolis Colts are Andrew Luck's team.
With an uncertain timeline for when their star quarterback might return from shoulder surgery, however, there were signs in a dismal 46-9 season-opening loss to the Los Angeles Rams that job could soon pass to newly acquired Jacoby Brissett on an interim basis.
Brissett replaced Scott Tolzien in the fourth quarter, and the former New England third-stringer was on the field for three series.
Patriots put WR Mitchell on injured reserve, sign OL Karras
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — The Patriots have placed receiver Malcolm Mitchell on injured reserve.
New England announced the move Thursday, about two hours before kicking off its season opener against the Chiefs. In addition, the Patriots signed offensive lineman Ted Karras to the 53-man roster.

New Patriots receiver Dorsett eager to jump in after trade
FOXBOROUGH, Massachusetts (AP) — The Patriots got through the preseason virtually unscathed before star receiver Julian Edelman sustained a season-ending knee injury a week before the last exhibition game.
Without one of Tom Brady's favorite options, coach Bill Belichick could have filled the roster spot with one of the rookies who had impressed the coaching staff during training camp.

Without one of Tom Brady's favorite options, coach Bill Belichick could have filled the roster spot with one of the rookies that had impressed the coaching staff during training camp.
FOXBORO — Not too long ago, Jimmy Garoppolo looked more like the quarterback who was going to be used in a trade by the Patriots, not Jacoby Brissett.
There was a king’s ransom available for him. The Browns were ready, willing and able to make a trade for the backup QB, only Belichick had other ideas.

NFL more fun with trades, and Patriots, Seahawks and Browns helping lead charge
Remember when the NFL might make 15 trades in a season, never mind in one whirlwind 48-hour period like the one to kick off Labor Day weekend?
We can, although why bother, because this brave new NFL world is a lot more fun to live in.
Patriots trade Brissett, add depth to set 53-man roster
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — The Patriots parted with a young quarterback, and added a young receiver, defensive end and cornerback to help set their 53-man roster for the start of the regular season.
Probably New England's biggest move Saturday was trading third-string quarterback Jacoby Brissett to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for receiver Phillip Dorsett.
Colts activate Luck, make trade amid flurry of roster moves
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indianapolis Colts have activated Andrew Luck from the physically unable to perform list and traded 2015 first-round draft Phillip Dorsett to the New England Patriots.
The moves came on a busy Saturday when the Colts trimmed their roster from 90 to 53 players.
Luck had been on PUP since late July, making him ineligible to practice. It's still unlikely he will play in next Sunday's season opener.
Dorsett was sent to the Patriots for backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett.
Patriots trade 3rd-string QB Brissett to Colts for Dorsett
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — The New England Patriots traded quarterback Jacoby Brissett to the Indianapolis Colts for receiver Phillip Dorsett.
The deal was announced Saturday in advance of the deadline for NFL teams to set their 53-man rosters for the start of the regular season.
With roster spot possibly at stake, Jacoby Brissett impresses in preseason finale
Quarterback Jacoby Brissett’s impressive performance in the preseason finale probably didn’t do too much to change the Patriots’ perception of the third-stringer.
Their decision to keep him — or, in a seemingly less likely scenario, to part ways — for a second season probably would have been based on a greater philosophical approach about their future at quarterback, more so than Brissett’s production in a game against the Giants that featured backups across the board.
With training camp and all four preseason games now in the rearview mirror, Bill Belichick and his coaching staff will be making those brutal last decisions about who’s in, and who’s out.
Season ending injuries to wide receiver Julian Edelman and rookie defensive end Derek Rivers already opened up a few spots, and now the likely season-ending knee injury suffered by Cyrus Jones Thursday night opens up one more.
That said, here’s our final roster projection and last crack at the Patriots 53:
FOXBORO — Third-string quarterback Jacoby Brissett may not get a chance to suit up for another game this season. But last night, it was showtime, and he delivered an exciting comeback in a preseason finale that wasn’t supposed to carry a lot of drama.
