Charles nets 2, Eibar fights back for 2-2 draw with Getafe
MADRID (AP) — Brazilian striker Charles scored two second-half goals as Eibar fought back to earn a 2-2 draw and deny Getafe a chance to move into fourth place in the Spanish league on Friday.
Charles' double took his team-leading tally to 12 goals.
"I have to congratulate my team for tying a game that we were on the brink of losing," Charles said. "My team gave it our all."
Getafe routs Alaves in clash of Spain’s surprise packages
MADRID (AP) — Jorge Molina and Jaime Mata each scored two goals as Getafe routed Alaves 4-0 on Friday to win the clash of this season's Spanish league surprise packages.
The victory pulled sixth-place Getafe to within one point of Alaves in fifth after 20 games.
"It was an important match for us given where we both are in the standings," Molina said. "Our goal remains the same, going forward game by game and trying to string wins together."
Celta held again, remains winless in 4 La Liga matches
MADRID (AP) — Celta Vigo was held by Getafe to 1-1 at home on Monday, extending its winless streak in the Spanish league to four matches.
The host went ahead with a first-half goal by Maxi Gomez, and Getafe equalized with a 78th-minute strike by Jaime Mata.
"Again, we let two important points slip away," Celta defender Gustavo Cabral said. "This result leaves a bad taste in our mouth."
Some Celta fans jeered the team after the final whistle at Balaidos Stadium in Vigo.
