Southeast Missouri State earns 86-74 win at Eastern Illinois
CHARLESTON, Ill. (AP) — Daniel Simmons and Justin Carpenter combined to score 50 points to spark Southeast Missouri State to an 86-74 Ohio Valley Conference victory over Eastern Illinois on Saturday afternoon.
The victory is the Redhawks first in four games at Eastern Illinois' Lantz Arena.
Spencer’s play down stretch helps Tennessee State win 69-65
CHARLESTON, Ill. (AP) — Delano Spencer made a steal and layup for the lead with 39 seconds left and added two free throws with 4.7 seconds remaining to seal a 69-65 Tennessee State victory over Eastern Illinois on Thursday night.
Spencer's layup made it 65-63 and his two free throws 67-64 before Ken'Darrius Hamilton added a pair of free throws with 1.1 seconds left.
Goodwin leads Eastern Illinois to first OVC win, 61-52
MOREHEAD, Ky. (AP) — Montell Goodwin made four 3-pointers and scored 20 points with five assists as Eastern Illinois defeated Morehead State for its first win in Ohio Valley Conference play Thursday night.
Goodwin was 6 of 17 shooting, 4 of 9 from distance, mirroring the overall percentages in a game where both teams struggled. Eastern Illinois made 21 of 58 (36 percent) and Morehead State 18 of 47 (38 percent).
Morant’s triple-double leads Murray St. past E. Illinois
MURRAY, Ky. (AP) — Ja Morant distributed 14 assists, scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his first triple-double and Murray State pulled away from Eastern Illinois for an 80-52 win Thursday night to start Ohio Valley Conference play.
Morant, a freshman, topped his previous career high of 12 assists and committed just one turnover in the process. Jonathan Stark led Murray State (9-3) with 21 points, Shaq Buchanan scored 15 and Terrell Miller Jr., 11.
E. Illinois smacks D-III Fontbonne 96-44
CHARLESTON, Ill. (AP) — Jajuan Starks had 14 points and was among seven Panthers in double figures scoring and Eastern Illinois beat Division III-member Fontbonne 96-44 on Friday night.
Muusa Dama made all six of his shots and scored 12 points, Montell Goodwin, Justice Green and Lucas Jones each scored 11 and Mack Smith and Michael Chavers both scored 10.
Lewis has career night, E Illinois downs IUPUI 80-79
CHARLESTON, Ill. (AP) — Terrell Lewis scored a career-high 25 points with seven 3-pointers and made both of his free throws, including the game-winner, and Eastern Illinois rallied to beat IUPUI 80-79 in its home opener on Friday night.
Jajuan Starks totaled career highs with 16 points and eight rebounds, D'Angelo Jackson added 11 points and Lewis had five assists. The Panthers (1-2) were outshot from the field 59.6 percent to 51.1 percent, but made 23 of 31 free throws to IUPUI's 3 of 7.
