MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Right-hander Kyle Gibson and left fielder Eddie Rosario were among eight Minnesota Twins players who avoided salary arbitration by agreeing to one-year contracts Friday.

Twins, Cron agree to $4.8 million, 1-year contract
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins and first baseman C.J. Cron have agreed on a $4.8 million, one-year contract to avoid salary arbitration.
Cron was claimed off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays this week after hitting a career-high 30 home runs with an .816 OPS.
The deal was reached Friday, when the Twins also decided not to offer a contract to outfielder Robbie Grossman, who becomes a free agent.
Gimenez, Austin lead Twins over Tigers, 5-3
DETROIT (AP) — Jake Odorizzi loves the way he's pitching.
The Minnesota Twins righty only wishes he could have discovered this form in April or May, not September.
In his first start after losing a no-hitter in the eighth inning against the New York Yankees, Odorizzi only allowed a check-swing single in the first six innings of a 6-3 victory over the Detroit Tigers.
Odorizzi takes no-hit bid into 8th as Twins top Yankees 3-1
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — As he inched closer to a no-hitter, Jake Odorizzi was ready to throw 140 pitches if needed. He was nearing his career high against the New York Yankees, but was confident he could talk Minnesota Twins manager Paul Molitor into leaving him in for the ninth inning if it got to that point.
Odorizzi’s no-hit bid vs Yankees broken up in 8th inning
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Twins pitcher Jake Odorizzi has given up an RBI double to Greg Bird with one out in the eighth inning, ending the right-hander's bid for a no-hitter against the New York Yankees.
After a walk to Luke Voit, Bird lined the next pitch deep into the left-center gap. It was the 120th pitch for Odorizzi on Wednesday night, matching his career high.
Chapman’s three-run homer leads A’s past Twins 7-1
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Oakland Athletics broke out a little bit of everything Friday night to snap their two-game skid: efficient starting pitching, sharp singles, sacrifice flies and even their first bunt-single of the year.
And oh yes, home runs.
Sean Manaea (12-9) stifled Minnesota's batters into the sixth inning, and Matt Chapman broke things open with a three-run homer and the A's beat the Twins 7-1 on Friday night to maintain their hold on the AL's final wild-card spot.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Paul Molitor said Minnesota's recent 1-8 road trip was one of the worst he's experienced in a long career in baseball. The Twins' manager is feeling much better about their homestand.
Joe Mauer homered and drove in four runs, and the Twins held on for a 11-8 win against the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night.
Jake Cave had three hits and a pair of RBIs, and Robbie Grossman added three hits to help Minnesota win for the eighth time in nine games on its homestand.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — When you get home after a disastrous road trip, it's nice to have the worst team in baseball waiting for you.
Jake Odorizzi pitched six scoreless innings and Mitch Garver, Eduardo Escobar and Brian Dozier homered as the Minnesota Twins completed a four-game sweep of the Baltimore Orioles with a 10-1 victory on Sunday.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Jake Odorizzi pitched six scoreless innings and Mitch Garver, Eduardo Escobar and Brian Dozier homered as the Minnesota Twins completed a four-game sweep of the Baltimore Orioles with a 10-1 victory on Sunday.

Thames homers as Brewers down Twins 2-0
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Eric Thames has a penchant for game-changing home runs this season.
Thames hit a two-run homer that accounted for the game's only runs as the Milwaukee Brewers slipped past the Minnesota Twins 2-0 on Tuesday. Thames has three home runs in the past six games.
"I'd say that's a hot streak," Brewers manager Craig Counsell said.
Eight of Thames' 12 homers have put the Brewers on the board and seven have given his team a lead.
DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Tigers lost much more than a game on Tuesday night.
Miguel Cabrera ruptured his left biceps tendon in the third inning of a 6-4 loss to the Minnesota Twins and will have season-ending surgery later this week.
"This is obviously a very sad day for Miggy and for the entire ballclub," manager Ron Gardenhire said. "It is obviously a huge blow to the team, both on and off the field, but we will have to find a way to overcome it."
Miguel Cabrera leaves game with biceps injury
DETROIT (AP) — Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera left a game Tuesday night against the Minnesota Twins with a left biceps tendon strain.
Batting in the third inning, Cabrera swung awkwardly at Jake Odorizzi's slider and immediately walked toward the Tigers dugout with his left arm hanging at his side. Niko Goodrum replaced him at the plate and struck out.
Cabrera left Detroit's loss April 29 to the Baltimore Orioles with spasms in his left biceps and missed three games.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Amid a bitterly cold April that led to four weather-related postponements, the Minnesota Twins never really had a chance to reap the rewards of a busy offseason.
Now that the weather's turned, the Twins are starting to live up to the lofty expectations that followed the franchise's first postseason appearance in seven seasons.
CHICAGO (AP) — Minnesota Twins players Logan Morrison and Jake Odorizzi weren't sure what to expect when they visited former teammate and current Chicago White Sox reliever Danny Farquhar at the hospital Friday.
Considering Farquhar is two weeks removed from a ruptured aneurysm and recovering from brain surgery, they were encouraged by what they saw.
"I was really, really blown away, impressed, surprised by how well he's doing," Morrison said. "Walking around, talking, doing great."
Twins snap 8-game skid, beat Reds 3-1
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Jake Odorizzi and the Minnesota Twins pitched their way out of a rough slide.
Odorizzi worked into the seventh inning, Mitch Garver homered and the Twins snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday.
The 28-year-old Odorizzi (2-2), who was acquired in an offseason trade with Tampa Bay, gave up one run and five hits. He had dropped each of his last two starts, allowing nine runs in 9 2/3 innings.
Jake Odorizzi’s six strong innings help Twins beat Reds, end eight-game skid
The upgraded starting rotation was expected to power the Twins engine through the long season. Despite the lack of a true ace, it was crafted to do enough to extend winning streaks while limiting losing streaks.
The latter finally happened on Saturday when righthander Jake Odorizzi said eight was enough.
NEW YORK This time, it might not be Yankee Stadium, or the pinstriped action heroes who play here. This time, it might just be the Twins.
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Francisco Lindor homered in his native Puerto Rico, Corey Kluber allowed one run in 6 2/3 innings and the Cleveland Indians beat the Minnesota Twins 6-1 on Tuesday night in the first regular-season game on the island commonwealth since 2010.
Francisco Lindor’s crowd-pleasing home run leads Indians over Twins in Puerto Rico
SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO The Twins wore the white pants on Tuesday, but it wasnt clear if they actually were going to be received as the home team in the Puerto Rico Series.
Even as Eddie Rosario received a huge ovation from during pregame introductions, you-know-who lined up across the infield from him. And with Francisco Lindor on their side, it appeared that Cleveland was the preferred team among the fans who showed up to watch Major League Baseball at Hiram Bithorn Stadium.

Four thoughts about a few of the converging sports seasons:
andensp; The Twins best starting pitcher in 2017 and their $12 million free-agent starting pitcher havent even taken the ball yet, making what Minnesotas three starters combined to do in the opening series against Baltimore that much more impressive.
Jake Odorizzi, Kyle Gibson and Jose Berrios threw 21 shutout innings over three games against the Orioles, allowing just five hits combined while striking out 19.
Berrios tosses 3-hitter as Twins beat Orioles 7-0
BALTIMORE (AP) — One after another, the Minnesota Twins' starting pitchers kept getting better and better against the Baltimore Orioles.
Jose Berrios threw a three-hitter in Minnesota's 7-0 victory Sunday, capping a season-opening series in which Twins starters combined for 21 innings of five-hit ball.
After Jake Odorizzi blanked Baltimore for six innings in the opener, Kyle Gibson tossed six no-hit innings before Berrios rang up his first career complete game.
