WASHINGTON (AP) — Vancouver Canucks defenseman Alexander Edler avoided long-term injury from hitting his head on the ice but will be out at least a week with a concussion.
Coach Travis Green said Tuesday that X-rays revealed no facial fractures. Edler was released from the hospital and headed back to Vancouver.
Edler will miss at least three games, but the Canucks are glad it wasn't worse.

OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) — Jakub Voracek rebounded quickly from an embarrassing loss.
Voracek had two goals and three assists and Scott Laughton also scored twice in Philadelphia's 7-4 victory over the Ottawa Senators in Wednesday, a night after an 8-2 loss to San Jose in the Flyers' home opener.
"It was a tough start at home for us, but we scored seven and I think we played a pretty good hockey game," Voracek said. "We just have to take it to the home ice now."

WASHINGTON (AP) — Chandler Stephenson, Andre Burakovsky and T.J. Oshie ended lengthy goal droughts to help the Washington Capitals rally past the Philadelphia Flyers 5-3 on Wednesday night.

Giroux ended up decking his buddy on the first shift, setting the tone in the Flyers' 6-3 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Saturday.

Penguins goalie Matt Murray placed on injured reserve
CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (AP) — The Pittsburgh Penguins will have to try to shake out of their early season funk without goaltender Matt Murray.
The two-time defending Stanley Cup champions placed Murray on injured reserve Tuesday with a lower-body injury.
Coach Mike Sullivan called Murray "week to week" after the 23-year-old left Monday night's 5-4 overtime win over Philadelphia in the second period following a collision with Flyers forward Jakub Voracek.
