COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — If Maryland was feeling pressured to snap a two-game losing streak, it sure didn't show prior to the opening tipoff against Minnesota.

Youngsters help No. 24 Maryland reach upper crust of Big Ten
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Extremely young and doggedly determined, Maryland has used a long-awaited growth spurt to move into the upper tier of the Big Ten standings.
A confidence-building victory at home over No. 12 Purdue earlier this week provided the 24th-ranked Terrapins (19-6, 10-4) with some momentum heading into Saturday's game at No. 6 Michigan.
Smith scores 16 as No. 24 Maryland beats No. 12 Purdue 70-56
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Halfway there in its bid for a ninth straight victory, No. 12 Purdue suddenly became incapable of making a layup, popping a short jumper or sinking a shot from beyond the arc.
It was a shortcoming that could be attributed in no small degree to a relentless defensive effort by 24th-ranked Maryland.
Jalen Smith scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half, and the Terrapins frustrated the Boilermakers and sharpshooter Carsen Edwards in a 70-56 victory Tuesday night.
Smith, Fernando lead No. 24 Maryland past Nebraska 60-45
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Jalen Smith's second big offensive game of the season against Nebraska didn't decide No. 24 Maryland's win over the Cornhuskers.
The Terrapins' 60-45 victory Wednesday night was all about defense. Maryland allowed its fewest points in a conference game under eighth-year coach Mark Turgeon.
"Our guys were locked in," Turgeon said. "That's the smartest we've played defensively this season, so it was good to see."
No. 19 Maryland tops Ohio State 75-61 for 7th straight win
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Maryland's depth and shooting touch were too much for Ohio State.
Anthony Cowan Jr. scored 20 points, and the 19th-ranked Terrapins won their seventh straight game, 75-61 over the skidding Buckeyes on Friday night.
Cowan, Maryland rally on road past Minnesota 82-67
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — With Maryland struggling to stop Minnesota's half-court attack, coach Mark Turgeon turned to a zone defense for a momentum shift.
Anthony Cowan Jr. ably carried the Terrapins the rest of the way.
Cowan matched his career high with 27 points and freshman Jalen Smith pitched in a season-best 21 points and eight rebounds, leading Maryland's rally past Minnesota on Tuesday night for a 82-67 victory fueled by sharp free-throw shooting.
Smith helps Maryland roll past Rutgers 77-63
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) — In the midst of a four-game stretch with a game every three days, being able to display its depth came at the perfect time for Maryland.
Jalen Smith finished with 16 points and six rebounds, a nice follow-up to his game-winning layup against No. 24 Nebraska last time out, to lead Maryland past Rutgers 77-63 on Saturday afternoon at a sold-out RAC.
Smith hits late layup, Maryland beats No. 24 Nebraska 74-72
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Nebraska's final attempt to score had gone awry, and as the buzzer sounded, Maryland's players rushed to the middle of the court to celebrate the team's most significant victory of the season.
"We beat a really good team. We need that for a confidence builder," coach Mark Turgeon said after the Terrapins used a late push to get past No. 24 Nebraska 74-72 on Wednesday night.
Maryland handles Radford behind Fernando’s double-double
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Bruno Fernando had 19 points and 12 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season and Maryland shook off a slow start to deal Radford a 78-64 loss in its nonconference finale on Saturday.
Eric Ayala scored 14 points and Darryl Morsell added 13 for the Terrapins (10-3), who were without freshman forward Jalen Smith, who was sidelined with an illness. Smith is averaging 11.9 points and 7.2 rebounds.
