Florida State backup quarterback Hockman transfers
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida State backup quarterback Bailey Hockman has decided to transfer, leaving the No. 19 Seminoles without much depth at the position.
Hockman was at Thursday's practice but was absent on Friday. A school spokesperson confirmed Hockman's intention to transfer. He hasn't decided what school to attend.
Francois named No. 19 Florida State’s starting QB
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Deondre Francois is back in the driver's seat.
The junior quarterback beat out James Blackman and Bailey Hockman for the opportunity to start for No. 19 Florida State in the season opener against No. 20 Virginia Tech on Sept. 3. Coach Willie Taggart made the announcement on Monday prior to practice.
"In every scrimmage we've had, he's been really impressive," Taggart said. "And the same thing in practice. And they all have. It's been a good competition.
Florida State wraps up practice at IMG; QB job still open
BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) — Florida State wrapped up four days of training camp at IMG Academy with coach Willie Taggart saying the Seminoles accomplished several things as they prepare for their season opener against Virginia Tech.
"I thought we got a lot done," Taggart said Thursday. "I'm really impressed with the way the guys competed in practice. Plays that they're not familiar with, we got better. It was just as if we were practicing at Florida State."
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Quarterback competitions are nothing new for Florida State, which has had four in the last six seasons.
But this competition is quite different from preseasons past. The Seminoles opened their first preseason under new coach Willie Taggart on Monday with two quarterbacks with starting experience.
Taggart, whose Florida State coaching debut will be Sept. 3 against Virginia Tech, said he has no timetable to make a decision.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Blanton Creque's first game-winning field goal at any level of football came at the opportune time for Louisville.
The sophomore's 34-yard field goal with five seconds remaining lifted the Cardinals to an emotional 31-28 win over Florida State on Saturday. The Cardinals (5-3, 2-3 ACC) took over on their own 24 with 2:05 remaining after Henry Famurewa recovered a James Blackman fumble. They then drove 59 yards in eight plays before Creque's kick.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida State has rediscovered that its offensive identity is as a running team. Of course, that works best with a successful ground game.
For the best results, Florida State has often found the more the better. This year is no different.
The Seminoles have received major contributions from Jacques Patrick and Cam Akers over the past three games, which has taken the pressure off freshman quarterback James Blackman and an inexperienced passing game.

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Freshman Cam Akers has been tantalizingly close to shaking free for a long touchdown run. Florida State has long believed it's on the verge of playing like an elite team again.
Finally, and at the perfect time, Akers broke through on Saturday.
Maybe the Seminoles' entire team did, too.
Akers ran 42 yards for the go-ahead touchdown with 8:23 to play, and Florida State held on to beat Duke 17-10.
Rosier rallies No. 13 Miami to 24-20 win over Florida State
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — With 1:24 remaining, it appeared Florida State had rallied again in the fourth quarter to beat No. 13 Miami and extend its winning streak over its Sunshine state rival.
Malik Rosier and the Hurricanes weren't quite done, though.
The junior drove Miami 75 yards in nine plays, throwing a 23-yard touchdown pass to Darrell Langham with 6 seconds left and Miami beat Florida State 24-20 on Saturday to end a seven-game losing streak in the series.
It came down to the final minute, when Florida State made one more play than Wake Forest in a 26-19 victory in front of a sellout crowd of 31,588 on Saturday at BB&T Field.
James Blackman’s 40-yard touchdown pass to a well-covered Auden Tate with 53 seconds left was the game-winning score, derailing Wake Forest’s unbeaten start and giving the Seminoles their first win of the season.

Instead, they finally figured a way out.
