Chris Evert to chair US Tennis Association’s charitable arm
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — Chris Evert has been chosen to chair the USTA Foundation's board of directors, serving as a spokeswoman and ambassador for the U.S. Tennis Association's charitable arm.
The 18-time Grand Slam champion and member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame takes over as chair from James Blake.
Evert, currently a tennis analyst on ESPN, partnered with the USTA Foundation in 2016 to set up the Jimmy Evert Fund, a scholarship program in honor of her late father.
John McEnroe is coming back to Connecticut.
McEnroe was announced as the headliner in the Invesco Legends New Haven event that will be staged by the Connecticut Open in August. Fairfield’s James Blake is also returning for the over-30 event, joined by Tommy Haas and Todd Martin.

James Blake hired as tournament director of Miami Open
MIAMI (AP) — Former top-five player James Blake has been hired as tournament director of the Miami Open.
In the newly created position, Blake will focus on player relations, the media and improving the event, the tournament said in a news release Thursday.
Blake, who lives in San Diego, had a 14-year professional career and won 10 ATP singles titles. He's an analyst for the Tennis Channel and CNN, and president of the USTA Foundation.

US-Switzerland will open 2017 Davis Cup in Alabama
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — A first-round Davis Cup match between the United States and Switzerland will be held at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex.
The USTA announced Thursday that the first round in Birmingham will take place from Feb. 3-5. The city also hosted a Switzerland-U.S. first-rounder in 2009.
