AUCKLAND, New Zealand (AP) — Tennys Sandgren is heading to the Australian Open in career-best form after beating Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-4, 6-2 to reach the ASB Classic final on Friday.
Sandgren beat former champion Kohlschreiber to play in his second ATP Tour final, after the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships last April.

AUCKLAND, New Zealand (AP) — Former champion Philipp Kohlschreiber defeated second-seeded Fabio Fognini again 6-3, 6-1 to reach the ASB Classic semifinals on Thursday.
Unseeded Kohlschreiber, who won the tournament in 2008, will have to go through Tennys Sandgren to reach another final in Auckland on his 12th visit.

Federer rallies to reach Swiss quarterfinals
BASEL, Switzerland (AP) — Roger Federer made it 17 wins in a row at the Swiss Indoors when he defeated Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany 6-3, 7-5 on Thursday to march into the quarterfinals.
The top-seeded Swiss, who was born in Basel, had his serve broken in the third game, but he fought back well by winning five consecutive games to stay on course to reach the final for the 14th time.

Djokovic advances at Qatar Open after slow start
DOHA, Qatar (AP) — Defending champion Novak Djokovic had a slow start to his first match of 2017 before prevailing 7-6 (1), 6-3 over Jan-Lennard Struff in the first round of the Qatar Open on Monday.
Second-seeded Djokovic trailed 4-0 in the opener before recovering to 5-5 and finally finding his form in the tiebreaker, where his 63rd-ranked German opponent won only one point.
Qualifier Copil beats 6th-seeded Sousa in European Open
ANTWERP, Belgium (AP) — Qualifier Marius Copil had nine aces as he upset sixth-seeded Joao Sousa of Portugal 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the first round of the European Open on Tuesday.
The 198-ranked Romanian also beat the 33rd-ranked Sousa on indoor hard courts in Stockholm, Sweden two years ago.
Copil converted his four break-point chances and next faces Steve Darcis of Belgium or Frenchman Benoit Paire.
Philipp Kohlschreiber to lead Germany against Poland
FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — Philipp Kohlschreiber will lead Germany against Poland in the Davis Cup playoffs despite a stress fracture in his right foot that forced him to miss the Olympics and to retire from his first-round match at the U.S. Open.
Kohlschreiber surprisingly appeared at the U.S. Open, only to quit against Nicolas Mahut. He is Germany's top-ranked player at No. 26.
