Liberty downs SC State 79-55 for best start since 1991
LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) — Georgie Pacheco-Ortiz scored 18 points with six 3-pointers, Scottie James added 14 points with eight rebounds, and Liberty never trailed in beating South Carolina State 79-55 on Tuesday night.
Lovell Cabbil had 15 points, Caleb Homesley 13 and Elijah Cuffee 11 for the Flames, who are 8-2 for the first time since 1991.
Liberty outshot the Bulldogs 56 percent to 39 percent, scored 24 points off of 15 turnovers and made 28 field goals on 25 assists, led by Cabbil's five.
Jacksonville hangs on to beat South Carolina State 71-69
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Tyreese Davis scored 14 points and DeAnthony McCallum made two free throws with seven seconds left as Jacksonville held on to beat South Carolina State 71-69 on Saturday night.
Wright hits late 3, SC State tops Charleston Southern in OT
ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) — Donte Wright hit a corner 3-pointer with 4.2 seconds left in overtime and South Carolina State beat Charleston Southern 91-88 on Tuesday.
Charleston Southern had a nine-point lead with 2:08 left in regulation but Janai Raynor Powell made six straight free throws to give the Bulldogs an 81-80 lead. CSU's Jamaal David was fouled on a putback attempt and went 1 of 2 at the line to tie it at 81. Raynor Powell dribbled down the clock but his runner was off at the buzzer.
Mitchell scores 21 in BC’s 91-52 romp over SC State
BOSTON (AP) — Boston College ran a simple pick-and-roll play that led to a dunk on its first possession of the game.
It seemed like it was that easy the entire game.
Steffon Mitchell scored 21 points, Jordan Chatman had 13 and Boston College breezed to a 91-52 victory over South Carolina State on Sunday afternoon.
SC State keeps NC A&T winless in Division I this season
GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Eric Eaves made four 3-pointers and scored 20 points, Tashombe Riley added 16 points, and South Carolina State beat North Carolina A&T 72-65 on Monday night.
SC State led by 10 points with 13 minutes left but NC A&T rallied.
Sam Hunt hit a 3-pointer with 25 seconds left to pull the Aggies to 68-65 but Riley made it a two-possession lead on the other end with two free throws. Hunt missed a 3 and Janai Raynor Powell added two more free throws to seal it.
