TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — In a state with a long-standing tradition of electing white, Christian men, Florida's Democratic primary could produce the state's first black or woman governor or the second Jewish governor in its history.
More than 1 million ballots already cast in Florida primary
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — More than one million voters have cast ballots in the state's crucial primary election.
The Florida Division of Elections website says that more than 861,000 voters have mailed in their ballots so far. Nearly 163,000 people have voted at early voting polling places.
Early voting is under way at all 67 counties.
Florida's primary is Aug. 28.
The top races are the gubernatorial primaries but there are also Cabinet primaries as well as many contested congressional races.

The Florida Division of Elections website says that so far more than 739,000 voters have mailed in their ballots. More than 38,000 people have voted at early voting polling places.
Eighteen counties started early voting Monday, but the remaining counties in the state will begin early voting in the next three days.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is entering the fray of the Democratic gubernatorial primary in Florida.
The U.S. senator from Vermont is planning to campaign with candidate Andrew Gillum along Florida's Interstate 4 corridor on Friday.
Sanders, a leader of the Democratic Party's progressive wing, endorsed the Tallahassee mayor earlier this month.
