Swinney wins Bear Bryant award for 3rd time in 4 years
HOUSTON (AP) — Dabo Swinney won the Paul "Bear" Bryant Coach of the Year award for the third time in four years Wednesday night, two days after leading Clemson to its second national championship in three years.
Swinney is the only three-time winner of the 33rd annual award, with Chris Petersen — the trophy holder in 2006 and 2009 at Boise State — the only other multiple winner.
Rivers, Fresno State top Arizona State in Las Vegas Bowl
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Running back Ronnie Rivers might be the embodiment of Fresno State's turnaround.
It wasn't guaranteed Rivers would be able to play this season after sustaining a foot injury in spring practice, and he was limited by a shoulder injury late in the year. But Rivers was there, leading the way as the Bulldogs completed their journey after going 1-11 two seasons ago.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Fresno State finds itself in the Las Vegas Bowl as the champion of the Mountain West Conference in coach Jeff Tedford's second season, less than two years removed from a 1-11 record.

No. 24 Fresno State outlasts No. 19 Boise State in snow
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Ronnie Rivers didn't find many open holes while running the ball for Fresno State in a snowy Mountain West championship game.
And he didn't have one on his final run Saturday night. But it didn't matter.
Rivers took an option pitch and shredded a tackler before scampering into the end zone to give No. 24 Fresno State a 19-16 overtime victory over No. 19 Boise State for the Bulldogs' first conference title since 2013.

Jeff Tedford wrapped up Fresno State's regular-season finale last weekend and the second-year coach flipped on the television to see where the Bulldogs would be headed for the Mountain West Conference championship game.

McMaryion, No. 20 Fresno State defense roll past UNLV
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Fresno State found itself in a "look-ahead game" scenario on Saturday night against struggling UNLV, and the Bulldogs handled the situation without a problem.
Marcus McMaryion threw for two touchdowns and 274 yards, while the Fresno State defense had a near-perfect game as the No. 20 Bulldogs cruised past UNLV 48-3.
No. 20 Fresno State aiming to avoid letdown against UNLV
No. 20 Fresno State has a showdown with Boise State next weekend and San Diego State after that in the two biggest games left on the schedule.
First, Fresno State has to get through UNLV. The Rebels are struggling and have yet to win a conference game, but it's not a game the Bulldogs can overlook.
Not after what happened last year: UNLV 26, Fresno State 16.
The loss was Fresno State's only blemish in Mountain West play last year and the Bulldogs haven't won in Las Vegas since 1996.
McMaryion leads Fresno State past New Mexico 38-7
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Marcus McMaryion threw for 280 yards and three touchdowns and the Fresno State defense stifled New Mexico in winning 38-7 on Saturday night.
KeeSean Johnson grabbed eight catches for 149 yards and two touchdowns for Fresno State (6-1, 3-0 Mountain West). Ronnie Rivers added two scoring runs as the Bulldogs their fifth straight.
UCF’s Scott Frost wins Associated Press Coach of the Year
Scott Frost is The Associated Press coach of the year after leading Central Florida to an unbeaten season and a spot in the Peach Bowl.
Frost has already accepted the Nebraska head coaching job, but plans to complete the season with UCF and coach the 10th-ranked Knights against No. 7 Auburn.
UCF’s Frost wins Eddie Robinson coach of the year award
DALLAS (AP) — Scott Frost, who led Central Florida to a perfect regular season before taking the Nebraska job, has won the Eddie Robinson Award as the national coach of the year.
The Football Writers Association of America and the Sugar Bowl announced the winner Thursday. In his second season at UCF, Frost guided the Knights to a 12-0 record, the American Athletic Conference championship and a Peach Bowl bid.
Nebraska Head Coach Scott Frost has been named one of eight finalists for the 2017 Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award. Frost was honored for his work this season at UCF, where he guided the Knights to the only undefeated season in the FBS ranks, just two seasons after inheriting a winless team.

Jeff Tedford has already engineered one of the more remarkable turnarounds in college football this season, taking No. 25 Fresno State from one win a season ago to the cusp of a Mountain West Conference title.
No matter the outcome of Saturday's MWC championship game against Boise State, it's been a highly successful first season for Tedford at his alma mater.
Ghaifan, Granderson, Wingard among Wyoming players to earn all-conference honors
Seven Wyoming Cowboys were honored with all-conference distinctions by Mountain West head coaches and media, the league announced Wednesday.
Defensive tackle Youhanna Ghaifan, defensive end Carl Granderson and safety Andrew Wingard were voted first-team all-conference, while linebacker Logan Wilson and cornerback Rico Gafford were voted to the second team. Quarterback Josh Allen and kick returner Tyler Hall were voted honorable mention all-conference.

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — Fresno State beat No. 25 Boise State 28-17 on Saturday in a preview of the Mountain West title game. That much is decided and done with.
Just don't ask Bulldogs coach Jeff Tedford where the rematch should be played. Hired to turn around a 1-11 program last November, Tedford is happy enough his bowl-bound team is still playing.
Fresno State beats Wyoming 13-7 to reach MWC title game
LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — Marcus McMaryion threw for 186 yards and a touchdown, and Fresno State clinched a spot in the Mountain West title game by beating short-handed Wyoming 13-7 on a cold and windy Saturday.
Fresno State (8-3, 6-1) will face Boise State on Dec. 2 after the Bulldogs secured the West Division title. It's Fresno State's third championship berth in five seasons.

Marek Warszawski: Extremely surprised. I picked them for like a 4-8 or 5-7 season. I didn’t pin myself down to either one, but that’s what I thought. I thought there’d be an improvement, but certainly not a six-win improvement with two games remaining.
Fresno State AD Jim Bartko resigns for personal reasons
FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — Fresno State athletic director Jim Bartko has resigned for personal reasons.
The school announced Monday that Bartko is leaving the position he has held since January 2015. There are no details on why Bartko decided to step down.
School President Joseph Castro credited Bartko for helping modernize the department, improve the academics and for hiring football coach Jeff Tedford.

Old friends clash as No. 6 Washington host Fresno State
SEATTLE (AP) — When Jeff Tedford told Chris Petersen he was leaving his role as an offensive consultant with Washington to take the head coaching job at Fresno State, Petersen was all for it.

Steinauer joins Fresno State as defensive coordinator
FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — Orlondo Steinauer joined Jeff Tedford's Fresno State staff as defensive coordinator Wednesday.
The former Canadian Football League player and assistant coach was the Hamilton Tiger-Cats' assistant head coach and defensive coordinator this season after three as defensive coordinator.
Steinauer starred as a defensive back at Western Washington and played 13 seasons in the CFL.
Fresno State hires Jeff Tedford as new coach
FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — Fresno State hired former California coach Jeff Tedford on Thursday to take over the struggling Bulldogs program.
A news conference will be held Friday to officially introduce Tedford as the replacement for the recently fired Tim DeRuyter. Tedford will take over after the season concludes with interim coach Eric Kiesau keeping his duties for the final two games for the Bulldogs (1-9).
