RENO, Nev. (AP) — Nevada's Jordan Caroline has been named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week for the second week in a row after averaging 19 points and 12 rebounds per game in a pair of victories over No. 20 Arizona State and Grand Canyon.

Kerr, Wright, McMillan to be US basketball assistant coaches
Steve Kerr and Jay Wright will be assistant coaches for the U.S. national basketball team, putting the coaches of the NBA and NCAA championship teams on Gregg Popovich's staff.
Nate McMillan will be the other assistant, USA Basketball announced Thursday.
The trio of coaches will work with Popovich in the 2019 Basketball World Cup and 2020 Olympics, assuming the Americans qualify for both events.
PHOENIX (AP) — Gonzaga will face Tennessee in Phoenix on Dec. 9 as part of the inaugural Jerry Colangelo Classic.

PHOENIX (AP) — Connie Hawkins, basketball's dazzling New York playground great who soared and swooped his way to the Hall of Fame, has died. He was 75.
His death was announced Saturday by the Phoenix Suns, the team with which he spent his most productive NBA seasons in a career delayed for years by a point-shaving scandal that led to the league blackballing him, even though he was never directly linked to any wrongdoing.

PHOENIX (AP) — Jerry Colangelo has been an owner of the NBA's Phoenix Suns, Major League Baseball's Arizona Diamondbacks and the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA. He's been an owner of indoor soccer and football teams, was executive director of USA Basketball and has been chairman of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame since 2009.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Retired Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has been elected chairman of USA Basketball.
Dempsey replaces Jerry Colangelo, who held the position for two terms but will focus now on his role as managing director of the U.S. men's national team.
Dempsey was elected during a meeting of USA Basketball's board of directors on Monday. His term is from 2017-2020.
