Battle, Boeheim help Syracuse hold off Boston College
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim says his team needs somebody to make shots.
His son appears to be that player.
Tyus Battle scored 21 points, including 15 in the second half, but it was Buddy Boeheim's career-high 16 points that helped Syracuse withstand a late Boston College rally to defeat the Eagles 67-56 Saturday.
Brissett, Howard carry Syracuse past Pittsburgh 65-56
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Jim Boeheim doesn't believe in midseason evaluations. The Syracuse coach knows it doesn't matter. All everyone remembers is how it ends.
That being said, Boeheim does know one thing: the Orange are pretty good when Frank Howard is hitting shots the way he did in Saturday's 65-56 victory over Pittsburgh.
Syracuse gets 22 points from Battle, beats Pitt 74-63
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim breathed a sigh of relief. Five days after his Orange's biggest win of the season, there was no letdown.
Tyus Battle scored 22 points, Boeheim's son Buddy had a season-high 13 points, and Syracuse beat Pittsburgh 74-63 on Saturday, the Orange's zone defense thwarting the youthful Panthers from exerting their strong point, converting tough drives to the basket.
Syracuse gets 14 points from Hughes, beats Clemson 61-53
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — On a night when Syracuse's trademark zone defense was effective against Clemson, coach Jim Boeheim's lesser-known press helped the Orange to their fourth straight win.
Elijah Hughes had 14 points to lead four Syracuse players in double figures and the Syracuse beat Clemson 61-53 Wednesday night, holding the Tigers to a season-low in scoring.
Hughes’ career day sparks Syracuse past Notre Dame 72-62
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Getting potent production across the board from his Big Three of Elijah Hughes, Oshae Brissett and Tyus Battle — like he got Saturday — is going to prove a necessity more than a luxury this season, according to Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim.
Hughes, a redshirt junior guard, erupted for career highs of 22 points and 10 rebounds as the Orange dominated down the stretch during their 72-62 victory over Notre Dame.
Elijah Hughes and Tyus Battle lead Syracuse in romp
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Syracuse was coming off consecutive nonconference home losses for the first time since 1979-80.
Down 11 midway through the first half, with a restless Carrier Dome crowd watching, the Orange appeared to be on their way to making history — in a bad way.
Tyus Battle’s late shot lifts Syracuse over Georgetown 72-71
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — For the second year in a row, Syracuse won the battle over Georgetown, thanks again to Tyus Battle.
Last season, Battle scored a then career-high 29 points to lead the Orange to an 86-79 comeback road win over their longtime rival.
Battle hit a game-winning, pull-up jumper just inside the 3-point line with 2.5 seconds left, giving the Orange another comeback win over the Hoyas, 72-71 at the Carrier Dome on Saturday night.
Boeheim v. Boeheim? Syracuse holds off Cornell, 63-55
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Round one of the Boeheims versus Boeheim went to Syracuse but it wasn't easy. The Orange just managed to avoid a huge upset against Cornell Saturday.
Another family night for Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim
Another season, another first for Syracuse's Jim Boeheim.
Even after more than four decades as head coach at his alma mater, he's facing something new. When the Orange (4-2) host Cornell (4-3) on Saturday night in the Carrier Dome, the matchup will give the 74-year-old Boeheim a unique moment in time — his two sons will compete against each other on the basketball court that bears the Hall of Fame coach's name.
Syracuse stops No. 16 Ohio State 72-62
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Syracuse found its outside shot, and just in time if you ask coach Jim Boeheim.
Tyus Battle scored 20 points, Elijah Hughes added 18 and the Orange shot nearly 46 percent from beyond the arc as Syracuse upset No. 16 Ohio State 72-62 in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge on Wednesday night.
It was Syracuse's second straight victory, as they improved to 4-2 on the season.
Early struggles for Syracuse could have March ramifications
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim says he doesn't pay attention to rankings. The way his Orange have started the season, there's not much for him to look at, anyway.
Battle scores 24, Syracuse beats Colgate 77-56, ends skid
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — From the perspective of Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim, it didn't really look like his team was hitting the gas pedal on offense in the second half against Colgate on Wednesday night.
Then again, compared to the team's performance in the first half, almost anything would have been an improvement.
Syracuse signs 4 players for next season
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim has announced four players have signed national letters of intent to play for the Orange next season.
The group includes 6-foot-10 center John Bol Ajak and three guards — Brycen Goodine of Rhode Island, Quincy Guerrier of Montreal, and 6-1 Joseph Girard of Glens Falls, already the all-time scoring leader in New York state history with 3,306 points and one more season to play.
Buddy Boeheim name misspelled on Syracuse jersey
NEW YORK (AP) — Buddy who?
Buddy Boeheim, Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim's son, had his last name misspelled on his jersey in No. 15 Syracuse's 83-76 loss to Connecticut on Thursday night in a 2K Classic game at Madison Square Garden.
The 6-foot-5 freshman's name was spelled "Boheim." He said he wasn't aware of the mistake until after the game. His father has been coach at Syracuse since 1976 and has won 928 games, including a national championship in 2003.
Battle, No. 16 Syracuse knock off Morehead State 84-70
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Syracuse appeared to be on its way to an easy night before Morehead State rallied.
There was a lot to like for the Orange. And a little trouble, too.
Tyus Battle scored 23 points, Elijah Hughes had 21 and No. 16 Syracuse outlasted Morehead State 84-70 on Saturday.
Syracuse limping into season opener vs Eastern Washington
Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim is dealing with a little uncertainty as his No. 16 Orange head into their season opener.
Injuries to the team's three point guards — starter Frank Howard and backups Howard Washington and Jalen Carey — forced Boeheim to use shooting guard Tyus Battle at the point in the team's two exhibition games, against Saint Rose and Le Moyne. The Orange, who easily beat both Division II teams, open the season Tuesday night at home against Eastern Washington.
Tyus Battle returns, making Syracuse a stronger team
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Syracuse's Jim Boeheim enters his 43rd season with a luxury few other coaches around the country can claim — all five Orange starters return from last year's Sweet 16 team.
The roster also has three freshmen, including the Hall of Fame coach's sharp-shooting son, and a transfer who's ready to go after practicing with the team for a year.
Things are looking up.
"The same guys, so we should improve," Boeheim said. "I think we're way ahead of where we were last year."

Shorthanded Syracuse hands Louisville third straight loss
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Syracuse entered Monday night's game at Louisville on a two-game losing streak and with just six healthy scholarship players. That was enough for the Orange to walk out with their biggest win of the season.
Tyus Battle scored 25 points to lead Syracuse to a 78-73 victory over Louisville Monday night.
"This was our best win in a long time," Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim said.
Hunter, Guy lead No. 2 Virginia over Syracuse, 59-44
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Call Virginia's Pack-Line defense impenetrable. You'll get no argument from Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim.
De'Andre Hunter scored 15 points, Kyle Guy added 14 and the 2nd-ranked Cavaliers smothered struggling Syracuse 59-44 on Saturday. The 44 points were the Orange's fewest since the Carrier Dome opened in 1980, another feather in the cap for the best defense in the nation.
Sidibe scores 18 off the bench, Syracuse tops Pitt 60-55
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Bourama Sidibe's aching left knee finally appears to be coming around. Syracuse's weird season may follow suit.
Syracuse uses balanced attack to defeat BC 81-63
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Maybe the answer to Syracuse's often sluggish offense is a week off between games.
Fresh off a win over Pitt eight days ago, the Orange turned in its best first half of the year and possibly its best overall effort on offense in a dominating 81-63 win Wednesday over Boston College.
Five Syracuse players scored in double figures and the Orange rode an 11-0 run early in the second half to take control.
7-day respite just what Syracuse needed
Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim and his thin roster needed a break, and the Orange got one at a most opportune time.
When Syracuse (13-6, 2-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) hosts Boston College (13-6, 3-3 ACC) on Wednesday night, the Orange will be coming off a seven-day hiatus as the midpoint of the conference season looms and thoughts of the postseason begin to take hold.
Howard leads Syracuse past Pitt 59-45
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Frank Howard saw to it that Syracuse didn't make history Tuesday.
The Orange had never lost five games in a row in the 42-year tenure of Hall of Fame coach Jim Boeheim, but coming off a disheartening double-overtime loss at No. 23 Florida State, that prospect loomed — even against a Pittsburgh team that entered the Carrier Dome winless in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The last time Syracuse lost five games in a row came during the 1968-69 season.
Brissett, Moyer lead Syracuse over Virginia Tech 68-56
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — After Syracuse held his team to 35 points below its season average and the lowest point total of the season, Virginia Tech coach Buzz Williams had a message for his ACC counterparts, and it's not a message his fellow coaches want to hear.
Syracuse opens ACC play at home on New Year’s Eve
Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim said before the season his team would be good defensively and struggle at the other end. That assessment was spot-on.
Syracuse rallies past Georgetown 86-79 in overtime
WASHINGTON (AP) — It was a lot like old times Saturday, with Jim Boeheim and Patrick Ewing facing each other for the first time as opposing coaches in one of college basketball's best rivalries.
There was, however, one noticeable difference.
"There wasn't any blood on the floor," Boeheim said.
Tyus Battle had 29 points, Oshae Brissett had 25 points and 14 rebounds, and Syracuse overcame a 13-point second half deficit to defeat Georgetown 86-79 in overtime.
Jim Boeheim optimistic Syracuse can improve a lot
Eight games into the season, Syracuse has only one loss and coach Jim Boeheim is optimistic his Orange can improve a lot.
"I know we can play better than this," Boeheim said. "We have to get better on the offensive end, and we expect to be able to do that."
Thybulle scores 19 as Washington stuns No. 2 Kansas, 74-65
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — First-year Washington coach Mike Hopkins saw how Kansas dissected Syracuse's vaunted 2-3 zone defense last week, so he made a couple tweaks to his own version before facing the Jayhawks on Wednesday night.
Primarily, Hopkins stretched the zone to take away the 3-pointer.
