Williams runs wild, Texas A&M routs NC State 52-13 in Gator
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Trayveon Williams strolled around the field, his white pants covered in dirt and grass stains, his Gator Bowl hat turned sideways and his MVP trophy secured tightly in his left hand.
He posed for pictures, hugged teammates and friends, and blew kisses to the crowd.
Texas A&M tries to end bowl losing streak against NC State
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher has dozens of players on his roster without a bowl victory.
Most of them, actually.
Fisher has a chance in his first season with the Aggies to show many of them what it's like to end the year celebrating on the field with a trophy. No. 21 Texas A&M (8-4) will try to end a three-game bowl losing streak when it plays North Carolina State (9-3) in the Gator Bowl on Monday night.
No. 8 LSU looks for 10th win in visit to Texas A&M
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — When Texas A&M entered the Southeastern Conference in 2012 and its almost 100-year series against Texas ended, it looked as if the Aggies' matchup with LSU might become a big rivalry.
Not so much so far. LSU has dominated since then, winning all six meetings with Texas A&M.
Williams scores 2 TDs as Aggies down UAB 41-20
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher didn't spend much time celebrating his team's blowout win over UAB on Saturday night before talking about how the Aggies must improve next week if they hope to upset No. 10 LSU.
UAB brings 8-game winning streak to game against Texas A&M
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Normally a break from Southeastern Conference play with a game against a Conference USA team might be seen as a nice breather for Texas A&M before the Aggies wrap up the regular season by hosting No. 10 LSU on Nov. 24.
However, Saturday's game against UAB (9-1) doesn't fall into that category. The Blazers have won a school-record eight straight games and clinched their first C-USA West Division title with an overtime win against Southern Miss last week.
Mond accounts for 4 TDs as A&M gets 38-24 win over Ole Miss
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — After Kellen Mond turned the ball over on Texas A&M's first two drives of the second half on Saturday against Mississippi, coach Jimbo Fisher thought about making a quarterback change.
But after looking into Mond's eyes, something told him that he would bounce back. So, he stuck with him and the sophomore rebounded to lead the Aggies to four scoring drives after his errors to give Texas A&M a 38-24 win.
Aggies look to bounce back against Ole Miss after 2 losses
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — After losing two straight games following a three-game winning streak, Texas A&M will try to finish better on Saturday against Mississippi.
The Aggies (5-4, 3-3 Southeastern Conference) have been outscored 28-0 in the fourth quarter of losses at Mississippi State and Auburn.
"It disappoints me like it does everyone else in that you know that you're very close," coach Jimbo Fisher said.
No. 25 Texas A&M, Auburn square off in SEC matchup
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — A national championship was on the line the last time Jimbo Fisher and Gus Malzahn stalked opposing sidelines.
This time, they'll settle for forging a strong November.
Fisher and No. 25 Texas A&M (5-3, 3-2 Southeastern Conference) hope to rebound Saturday against Auburn (5-3, 2-3) and Malzahn, who's trying to salvage a disappointing season.
Bowl Watch: Florida State’s streak in jeopardy again
For a second straight year, Florida State's bowl streak is very much in doubt.
The Seminoles played in a bowl for a 36th straight season last year, but only after beating Louisiana-Monroe in a rescheduled game that enabled Florida State to finish the regular season at 6-6. That game took place after coach Jimbo Fisher had already left for Texas A&M.
No. 16 Texas A&M gets another SEC test vs. Mississippi State
Texas A&M has won three straight games to quickly become a factor in the Southeastern Conference Western Division under first-year coach Jimbo Fisher.
Now the Aggies on Saturday must face one of the league's best defenses in Mississippi State.
Texas A&M, South Carolina QBs look to take steps forward
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond and South Carolina signal-caller Jake Bentley know they've got room to improve midway through their seasons.

Texas A&M outlasts No. 13 Kentucky 20-14 in OT
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Jimbo Fisher has his first signature victory at Texas A&M. It took a little extra time to earn it.

After 65 years, No. 13 Kentucky and Texas A&M resume series
Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher and Kentucky counterpart Mark Stoops have history. One with closer ties than the football series between the schools.
The Aggies and Wildcats have met just twice on the gridiron — the last time was 65 years ago.
Aggies fast 100-yard start on way to 24-17 win over Arkansas
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Jimbo Fisher got his first Southeastern Conference victory at Texas A&M. He was still far from happy with the performance.
Jashaun Corbin had the first 100-yard kickoff return to start a game for Texas A&M since 1994 and Trayveon Williams ran for 153 yards with two touchdowns, but the Aggies needed a late interception to seal a 24-17 victory over Arkansas on Saturday.
Texas A&M going for record 7th win in row over Arkansas
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Texas A&M has already played — and lost — to No. 1 and No. 2 in the opening month of coach Jimbo Fisher's first season.
Still, maybe there is something that the Aggies can take out of those games against potential playoff teams.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — The parade of former Nick Saban assistants trying to beat their old boss and Alabama continues.

Fisher, No. 22 Texas A&M seeking upset of No. 1 Alabama

Beating them has certainly been routine.
Saban and the top-ranked Crimson Tide face another former acolyte Saturday when Jimbo Fisher brings his 22nd-ranked Texas A&M Aggies (2-1, 0-0 Southeastern Conference) into Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Mond accounts for 3 TDs as Texas A&M handles ULM 48-10
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — In his first year at Texas A&M, one of the things coach Jimbo Fisher has enjoyed most is watching sophomore quarterback Kellen Mond grow and develop from week to week.
"It's just fun to watch him," Fisher said. "The questions he asks, the thoughts he has and ... he's really fun right now and he's learning."
Mond had another big game on Saturday night, running for two touchdowns and throwing for a third to give Texas A&M a 48-10 win over Louisiana-Monroe.
Texas A&M gets ULM before trip to No. 1 Alabama
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Texas A&M doesn't have a lot of time to worry about its loss to No. 2 Clemson with just one game before the Aggies travel to face top-ranked Alabama.
First, they host Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday with a chance to work on some things before that Sept. 22 trip to Tuscaloosa.
Week 2 preview: Ranked teams on road and Bryce bounce back

Florida State announces plans for new football facility
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — A new stand-alone football facility is a major facet of a fundraising campaign for Florida State University's athletic program.
University President John Thrasher announced plans for the $100 million Unconquered Campaign on Sunday at Doak Campbell Stadium.
The major component is a $60 million football operations center that will be built adjacent to the practice fields and indoor complex.
Notre Dame’s Kelly likes what he sees in Lea, defense
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — If 36-year-old Clark Lea had butterflies calling signals during his first game ever as a defensive coordinator, it wasn't apparent to his boss, Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly.
"You don't know if a bomb has gone off in the coach's box because he has such a calm demeanor at all times," Kelly said Sunday, a day after No. 12 Notre Dame's 24-17 victory over No. 14 Michigan. "As you know, he very stable in all situations. It makes it very easy to work with Clark in communication."
Williams has 240 yards rushing as A&M routs Northwestern St.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Coach Jimbo Fisher has preached about the importance of explosive plays since he took over at Texas A&M.
On Thursday night, Trayveon Williams gave his new coach exactly that when he ran 73 yards for a touchdown on the team's third offensive play to get things going in what ended as a 59-7 rout of Northwestern State in Fisher's debut at the school.
Fisher makes debut with Texas A&M against Demons
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Coach Jimbo Fisher makes his debut at Texas A&M on Thursday night against Northwestern State in what will be his team's only tuneup before a huge test against second-ranked Clemson.
Fisher left Florida State for a 10-year, $75 million contract with the Aggies that comes with the expectation that he'll elevate Texas A&M into college football's elite.
Fisher says Texas A&M ‘very open’ in inquiry of allegations
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — New Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher said Thursday his program will be "very open" to any inquiry into allegations of possible NCAA violations, but he is confident in how things have been handled since he arrived from Florida State.
Fisher signs huge contract; takes on new challenge with A&M
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — All those zeroes in Jimbo Fisher's new contract hang over the coach like a huge cloud.
Texas A&M handed Fisher a 10-year, $75 million contract to leave Florida State after Kevin Sumlin was fired last year. Aggie fans believe that's 75 million reasons why he should be the one to deliver their first national title since 1939.
He knew what the expectations were before the ink was dry on the deal. And he insists he isn't daunted by them.
Report: Former Texas A&M LB alleges possible violations
Texas A&M says it is reviewing allegations of possible NCAA violations by football coaches made by a former player who transferred to Arizona.
High expectations face Fisher in 1st season at Texas A&M
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Texas A&M lured Jimbo Fisher away from Florida State with a huge contract to bring the Aggies their first national title since Franklin Roosevelt was president.
Fans won't have to wait long to see how the team stacks up against college football's elite with 2016 national champion Clemson visiting College Station on Sept. 8 and the Aggies trekking to Tuscaloosa to play defending champion Alabama in Week 4.
ATLANTA (AP) — There is no escaping Nick Saban's influence on the Southeastern Conference. His coaching tree was represented on each of the four days of the SEC's media gathering.
South Carolina's Will Muschamp, who was Saban's defensive coordinator when LSU won the 2003 national championship, took the stage on Thursday. It was no surprise he was asked to talk about Saban.
ATLANTA (AP) — Jimbo Fisher introduced himself to his new Texas A&M team with some insults and frank challenges.
Right off the bat, the new coach told the Aggies they were soft in 2017, according to one of his players. Fisher also told his new players they better do things his way, or otherwise they'd be gone.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida State's athletic department is thriving under Stan Wilcox.
Since Wilcox became the Seminoles' AD in 2013, Florida State has won national championships in three sports. Wilcox isn't standing pat, he's already made one major hire and is expected to make another over the next 12 months.
More than a decade after Nick Saban took over as the coach of Alabama, the rest of the Southeastern Conference is still trying to figure out how to consistently beat him.
A lot of coaches have tried. A lot of them have ended up unemployed.
New weapons emerging for Aggies as pass-catchers shine at Maroon & White Game
Texas A&M didn’t settle on a starting quarterback during Saturday’s Maroon & White Game at Kyle Field, but whoever wins the job might have added a few weapons.
Sophomores Nick Starkel and Kellen Mond, last season’s starting quarterbacks, each had their moments in the White’s 30-24 victory, but it was the guys on the receiving end who created the most buzz among the 48,129 fans.
COLLEGE STATION — Texas A&M defensive end Landis Durham had a message for Aggies quarterback Nick Starkel when the two crossed paths in an interview room following the Maroon &S White game at Kyle Field.“I like my steak rare,” said Durham, after his White squad on Saturday edged Starkel’s Maroon bunch before 48,129 fans, a record for an A&M spring game.Over the previous couple of hours, and prior to any meaty bets being made, new Aggies coach Jimbo Fisher sent his own message to...

Under pressure: Former Texas A&M coaches talk expectations for Jimbo Fisher
The greatest pressure Jimbo Fisher faces is that which he puts on himself. It’s not living up to his $75 million contract, or what other people want. At least that’s the thinking of the last two Texas A&M football coaches to win conference championships.
It’s not if Texas A&M becomes a Top 10 program under Jimbo Fisher, but when. It might not be this year or next year, but it’ll happen.
Fisher is too good of a coach, and Texas A&M affords him all the ingredients. It’s a perfect match, but can he win a national championship? That has to happen in order to validate Fisher’s contract. You make big noise, you better produce big results.
The Texas A&M football team focused on situational work Wednesday as the Aggies have only one more practice before Saturday's 4 p.m. Maroon & White Game at Kyle Field, which will conclude spring drills.
Areas covered included 2 minutes before halftime and the end of the game, being able to run out the last 4 minutes of a game, first-and-10 plays at midfield, starting near the goal line, red-zone plays and two-point conversion plays.
A new offensive approach and good health could add up to Texas A&M junior running back Trayveon Williams having a big bounce-back season.
A&M is expected to rely more on a power running game for offensive balance under first-year head coach Jimbo Fisher, and that's music to Williams' feet.
"[The new offense] will be strong to the run game, and it will open up the pass game a lot, and I'm excited about it," Williams said.
The Texas A&M football team returned to practice Monday, working on improving the players’ situational intelligence.
A&M ran first- and third-down plays, but it also ran first- and third-down plays in just the red zone, which are completely different coach Jimbo Fisher said. The Aggies also ran the 2-minute drill.
For new Texas A&M head football coach Jimbo Fisher, the spring game isn’t a final exam. He equates it to completing a summer reading list.
The urgency for the new coaching staff isn’t to get to the April 14 spring game with a perfect offense and defense but to give the players everything they need to study through the summer break, Fisher said.
As cameras surrounded former Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel in the Aggies' McFerrin Athletic Center on Tuesday, the Heisman Trophy winner announced he was retiring — from Pro Days.
Manziel took part in his second A&M Pro Day Tuesday in an effort to make a comeback to the NFL. It was also his second Pro Day of the spring; he threw passes to wide receivers at the University of San Diego on Thursday.
