Toms, Durant share lead in PGA Tour Champions opener
KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii (AP) — David Toms and Joe Durant each shot 7-under 65 in windy conditions Thursday to share the first-round lead in the PGA Tour Champions' season-opening Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai.
The 52-year-old Toms closed his bogey-free round with a 2-foot birdie putt on the par-4 18th. He won the U.S. Senior Open last year for his first Champions title after winning 13 times on the PGA Tour.

Joe Durant eagles 18th to take lead in Calgary
CALGARY, Alberta (AP) — Joe Durant eagled the par-5 18th for a 7-under 63 and a one-stroke lead over Miguel Angel Jimenez on Saturday in the PGA Tour Champion's Shaw Charity Classic.
Durant birdied the first four holes on the back nine and bogeyed the par-4 15th before pulling ahead with the 15-foot eagle putt from the fringe on 18.
BILOXI, Miss. (AP) — Steve Stricker moved into position for his second straight PGA Tour Champions victory, shooting a 3-under 69 in gusting wind Saturday to take a one-stroke lead in the Rapiscan Systems Classic.
Stricker won the Cologuard Classic three weeks ago in Tucson, Arizona, for his first victory on the 50-and-over tour. He tied for 12th the following week in the PGA Tour's Valspar Championship.

BILOXI, Miss. (AP) — Joe Durant had three straight birdies in a back-nine burst and a shot 6-under 66 on Friday to take the first-round lead in the PGA Tour Champions' Rapiscan Systems Classic.
Durant birdied the par-4 11th and 12th and par-5 13th in the bogey-free round at breezy and rain-softened Fallen Oak. Because of the wet conditions, players were allowed to lift, clean and place their golf balls in the fairway.
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Tom Pernice Jr. remained patient in cool, rainy and breezy conditions on Saturday and held onto a one-shot lead after two rounds of the Toshiba Classic.
Steve Stricker settles for second in Champions Tour Chubb Classic
Joe Durant birdied the final two holes — and got some help from Madison resident Steve Stricker — to win the Champions Tour Chubb Classic on Sunday in Naples, Florida.
Durant shot a 5-under 67 for a four-stroke victory over Stricker, David Toms, Lee Janzen, Billy Mayfair and Tim Petrovic.
“I was nervous starting out, and I missed short putts early,” said Durant, 53. “But I kept grinding, kept telling myself that if I could just steady myself, hit some quality shots, the putts would start to go.”

NAPLES, Fla. (AP) — Joe Durant birdied five of the last eight holes for a 9-under 63 to match Steve Stricker's Saturday finish and take the second-round lead in the PGA Tour Champions' Chubb Classic.
Durant rebounded from a three-putt bogey on the par-4 10th with birdies on the next two holes and also birdied Nos. 15-17. He had a 14-under 130 total on TwinEagles' Talon course for a one-stroke lead over Stricker.

BILOXI, Miss. (AP) — Gene Sauers shot a 9-under 63 to take a one-shot lead after the second round of the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic on Saturday.
The 54-year-old Sauers started the day three shots behind leader Joe Durant at Fallen Oak, but moved up the leaderboard with five birdies and an eagle on the front nine. He made bogey on No. 10, but recovered with three birdies over the final eight holes. He's at 12 under for the tournament.

Fred Couples stroke back in PGA Champions Tour event
BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — Fred Couples birdied the final two holes Saturday to pull within a stroke of the leaders in the PGA Champions Tour's Allianz Championship.
The 57-year-old Couples shot a 7-under 65 to reach 11-under 133 on The Old Course at Broken Sound.
Doug Garwood, Joe Durant, Scott McCarron and first-round leader Olin Browne shared the top spot, all birdieing the par-5 18th. Garwood shot 64, Durant 65, McCarron 66, and Browne 69. Tom Pernice Jr. had a 64 to match Couples at 11 under.
Woody Austin, Mark Mulder win Diamond Resorts Invitational
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Woody Austin completed a wire-to-wire victory Sunday in the Diamond Resorts Invitational and former pitcher Mark Mulder took the celebrity title.
Austin closed with a 6-under 66 on the Four Seasons Resort's Tranquilo course, earning 31 points in the modified Stableford scoring system to finish the three-round event at 104 — eight points ahead of second-place Joe Durant. Austin opened with an 11-under 59.
Gene Sauers takes 2-stroke lead in Boeing Classic
SNOQUALMIE, Wash. (AP) — Gene Sauers took the Boeing Classic lead Saturday, two weeks after his breakthrough victory in the U.S. Senior Open.
The 54-year-old Sauers two-putted for birdie on the par-5 18th for a 5-under 67 and a two-stroke lead over Joe Durant. The three-time PGA Tour winner had a 12-under 132 total at TPC Snoqualmie Ridge.
Miguel Angel Jimenez takes US Senior Open lead
UPPER ARLINGTON, Ohio (AP) — Miguel Angel Jimenez was back on top on a Saturday, this time in the U.S. Senior Open at difficult Scioto County Club. The 52-year-old Spanish player was looking for a better late Sunday afternoon result after missing chances in his last two events.
There is an opening between two hospitality tents on the right side of the 18th green for the 3M Championship. A crowd of tournament officials, media members and a couple of competitors crowded the opening, as Miguel Angel Jimenez studied a putt he would attempt.
The ball was bumped against the back collar. It would be about a 25-foot roll to the cup if Jimenez was able to strike the ball true.

BLAINE, Minn. (AP) — Joe Durant made a 10-foot eagle putt on the first hole of a playoff with Miguel Angel Jimenez on Sunday to win the PGA Tour Champions' 3M Championship.
"I almost don't even remember it going in," Durant said, "because I knew I hit a good putt. I took a little more time with it and put a really good stroke on it."
