No. 4 Michigan stays unbeaten, routs Air Force 71-50
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Air Force came out against No. 4 Michigan in what looked like a zone defense. For a few minutes, it was working.
"I think it took a while for our guys just to look at the defense and figure out what it was — even the coaches. They had played 4 percent zone defense this year ... so we didn't plan on that," Michigan coach John Beilein said. "Those are all engineers. They know they can figure out something to trick us a little bit."

"I love the University of Michigan and I am excited about coaching our Men's Basketball Team next season and in the years to come!" Beilein tweeted Wednesday. "Let's go hang some more banners at "THE GREATEST UNIVERSITY IN THE WORLD.""
DETROIT (AP) — Michigan's John Beilein has interviewed for the Detroit Pistons' coaching vacancy, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity Friday because he was not authorized to speak publicly about the matter. Beilein led the Wolverines to the NCAA championship game this past season, the second time in six years he'd accomplished that. Michigan lost to Louisville in 2013 and Villanova this year.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Michigan standout Charles Matthews is taking a step toward playing professional basketball without giving up on the option of staying in school.

Ann Arbor — The annual coaching carousel has swept up Michigan coach John Beilein's staff the past couple of seasons.
This time around, Beilein is hopeful he won't have to add an assistant coaching search on his offseason to-do list for a third straight year.

Ann Arbor — Junior center Moritz Wagner isn't ready to tip his hand just yet.
Prior to Michigan's awards banquet Wednesday at Crisler Center, Wagner said he's still weighing his options about his future and whether he'll forgo his senior year for the NBA.

Well, that was nice.
Villanova won the NCAA men's basketball tournament with an old-fashioned college team, nary a one-and-done in sight. Vanquished Michigan was constructed in similar fashion by John Beilein, voted the sport's cleanest coach in a CBS poll of 100 coaches last year.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — It was a team unlike any John Beilein had coached at Michigan.
The Wolverines spent most of the NCAA Tournament out of sync offensively, misfiring from 3-point range and relying on a tenacious defense to keep their season going. That formula — so much different from the way Beilein's teams had won in the past — took Michigan all the way to the national title game before Monday night's loss to Villanova.
San Antonio — Michigan had seen this movie before and, quite frankly, the Wolverines would have been happy to never see it again.
But just like in 2013 when the Wolverines were last in the national championship game, it was once again a player off the bench who proved too much for Michigan to overcome.
SAN ANTONIO (AP) — The somber mood in Michigan's locker room after the NCAA Tournament championship game had no outward effect on John Beilein. When the smiling 65-year-old coach stepped into the Alamodome hallway, he looked nothing like a man who had just missed a golden opportunity to reach his only remaining professional goal.
That's because Beilein doesn't see a national title as a goal at all, even after falling one game short for the second time in six seasons.
SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Michigan's starters trudged to the bench in weary succession, watching with towel-covered heads in their hands while the waning minutes of the NCAA Tournament championship game dropped away.
After finding answers to every problem during their 14-game winning streak, the Wolverines' final test of the season had been just too tough.
San Antonio — Michigan made it this far on sweat and defensive effort, farther than anyone expected. They looked occasionally daunting and occasionally human, and then ran smack into a machine that made them look completely human.
SAN ANTONIO (AP) — A wild, entertaining season and one of the maddest Marches in college basketball history has reached its pinnacle.
Villanova and Michigan, prolific offense vs. stifling defense, a national title on the line, Monday night in San Antonio.
SAN ANTONIO Can the Big Ten finally win the Big One?
Michigan is one win away from ending the Big Tens national championship drought. But Wolverines coach John Beilein doesnt want his team to think about the pressure of trying to be the first from the league to cut down the nets at the Final Four since Michigan State in 2000.
Im not carrying that weight on our back, said Beilein, who lost to Louisville in the title game in 2013.
