Sundance: Anton Yelchin celebrated in intimate documentary
PARK CITY, Utah (AP) — Anton Yelchin died in a freak accident at age 27, but a new documentary seeks to put the focus back on the actor's extraordinary life.
"Love, Antosha," which is seeking theatrical distribution, premiered Monday at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, to tears and applause. His parents, Viktor Yelchin and Irina Korina, the driving force behind the documentary, were there as well.
Box Office Top 20: ‘The Nun’ conjures up $53.8 million
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The horror pic "The Nun" scared off the competition and dominated the North American box office in its first weekend in theaters, grossing $53.8 million.
A spinoff of a character seen in "The Conjuring 2," ''The Nun" banked the most successful launch of the "Conjuring" universe, which also includes the "Annabelle" films.
Computer-screen thriller ‘Searching’ transcends its gimmick
LOS ANGELES (AP) — If "Searching," a mystery about a father looking for his missing teenage daughter told only with smartphone and computer screens, sounds like a gimmick, don't worry, you're in good company. Its star, John Cho, and director and co-writer Aneesh Chaganty thought so too initially. It wasn't even a new concept. The producer for "Searching" was also behind the "screen thriller" ''Unfriended," and wanted a follow-up that used the same technique.

The movie, "Columbus," won best feature film at the Valletta Film Festival in Malta. Its star, Haley Lu Richardson, was honored as best actress.
Hollywood stars join Oxfam to draw attention to refugees
BOSTON (AP) — Minnie Driver, John Cho and Oliver Platt are among 14 Hollywood stars participating in a new Oxfam America program launched Tuesday that's meant to inspire people to help refugees.
The "I Hear You" campaign launched Tuesday by the Boston-based charity features videos of the actors, many of them close to tears, reading the firsthand stories of refugees aloud.

‘Star Trek’ creator’s son unsure of gay Sulu
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The son of late "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry says his father would have been on board with an Enterprise crew member being portrayed as gay, but he's unsure if it should have been helmsman Hikaru Sulu.
Rod Roddenberry said his father would have been supportive of a gay "Trek" character and commended the "Star Trek Beyond" filmmakers for featuring an LGBT character. Roddenberry died in 1991.
