UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) — Reilly Opelka had climbed out of trouble all week, though this time his big serve alone couldn't save him.
Technology did first.
Moments after an electronic review overturned what appeared to give his opponent a match point, Opelka pounded his 43rd ace to win his first ATP Tour title Sunday with a 6-1, 6-7 (7), 7-6 (7) victory over qualifier Brayden Schnur in the New York Open.
UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) — Reilly Opelka edged top-seeded John Isner the same way he knocked his fellow American out of the Australian Open, winning a match full of tiebreakers Saturday night in a New York Open semifinal that set a record for combined aces in a three-set match.
Opelka fought off six match points in a marathon second set and went on to win 6-7 (8), 7-6 (14), 7-6 (4) to move within a victory of his first ATP title.
UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) — John Isner advanced to the semifinals of the New York Open, where he will face the player who knocked him out of the Australian Open.

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) — John Isner snapped a six-match losing streak, beating Bernard Tomic 7-6 (7), 6-4 on Wednesday in the second round of the New York Open.
The top-seeded American needed six match points to finish off Tomic for his first victory since last year's Paris Masters. He followed that tournament by dropping all three matches in his first appearance at the season-ending ATP Finals and was 0-2 to start 2019, including a first-round loss at the Australian Open.
UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) — Reilly Opelka ousted No. 5 seed and 2018 semifinalist Adrian Mannarino of France 2-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4 in a first-round match Tuesday at the New York Open.

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — It was a bit as if John Isner was looking at a mirror-image across the net at the Australian Open on Monday, facing that rare guy who's actually a tad taller than he is and can smack serves nearly as well.
And so it was that, even though he hit more aces than his opponent, 47-40, delivered more total winners, 79-64, and finished with more overall points, 147-142, Isner — for the first time in his career — failed to beat an American foe at a Grand Slam tournament.

LONDON (AP) — After reaching the last four at the ATP Finals for the first time, Alexander Zverev isn't satisfied.

Zverev is the youngest player at 21 to reach the semifinals since 2009 and the first from Germany since 2003.
"The tournament isn't over," Zverev said. "I don't want to really be thinking 'I'm in the semifinals now, I'm satisfied.' That's not how I work."
LONDON (AP) — Novak Djokovic overcame an illness — and Alexander Zverev — to advance to the last four of the ATP Finals.
Using a tissue to blow his nose between points, Djokovic was able to beat Zverev 6-4, 6-1 on Wednesday for his second straight victory of the tournament.
"Unfortunately, today hasn't been great in terms of that (illness)," Djokovic said. "Somehow I managed to gather the strength when I needed it."
LONDON (AP) — The opening matches at the ATP Finals led to a debate over whether conditions at the O2 Arena were trickier than in past years.

The third-seeded Tsitsipas won the first of the semifinals, beating Fabio Fognini 6-3, 6-2. The 19-year-old Greek has yet to win a title.

CHICAGO (AP) — John Isner, the tall American with the blistering serve, has added a new role in the last week. He's a dad.
His wife gave birth a week ago to their first child, a daughter, an experience Isner described as "the best moment of my life for sure."
Being separated this week while he competes in the Laver Cup has been difficult.
Isner said he received a picture on his phone of his daughter watching him play for the first time.
