Veteran John Greco starting at center for injured Halapio
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — After joining the New York Giants as a late-season addition, veteran offensive lineman John Greco came to training camp as somewhat of a bubble guy on the roster.
Both a guard and center, the 33-year-old seemed to be the odd guy out at both spots.
Jon Halapio and Brett Jones were the top centers, and rookie Will Hernandez and free-agent signee Patrick Omaneh were the top two guards. Greco and long-time starter John Jerry were fighting for a roster spot.
Giants cut backup QB Webb, vets Gay, Jerry
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — In a surprising move, the New York Giants released backup quarterback Davis Webb on Sunday.
That leaves inexperienced Kyle Lauletta and Alex Tanney behind Eli Manning who, of course, never has missed a game because of injury in his career.
New York also released vested veterans guard John Jerry and defensive back William Gay, and waived tight end Jerell Adams, wide receiver Hunter Sharp and defensive tackle Josh Banks.

Giants’ line and running game under microscope Friday
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The start of the preseason may finally begin shedding light on the New York Giants' offensive line and their running game.
Since training camp opened two weeks ago, no parts of the team have been watched more closely than the line and the running backs.
The line was horrible last season and the backs are a major question mark with the release of veteran Rashad Jennings.
AP source: New York Giants re-sign guard John Jerry
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — A person with knowledge of the situation tells The Associated Press that free agent guard John Jerry has agreed to return to the New York Giants.
The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the three-year deal has not been signed.
The person said Mondat that the deal is worth $10 million, with a little over $4 million guaranteed.
Giants struggle on offense, especially up front
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The New York Giants' offense has struggled in the preseason, and no group more than the line.
The only time Ben McAdoo's team ran the ball was in the opener against Miami, which did not play its starting defensive line.
