New York man pleads guilty to threatening congressman over net neutrality
Federal prosecutors have obtained a guilty plea from Patrick Angelo, a 28-year-old New York state resident who admittedly threatened to kill his congressman and the congressman's family unless the lawmaker supported net neutrality.
Angelo, of Syracuse, pleaded guilty in Buffalo federal court Tuesday to one charge of interstate communication of a threat in connection with a Oct. 2017 voice mail message left with the D.C. office of Rep. John Katko, New York Republican.

The U.S. District Attorney's Office says 28-year-old Patrick Angelo of Syracuse has been charged with threatening a federal official. Officials claim Angelo called the Washington D.C. office of Republican Rep. John Katko and left a voicemail where he threatened to kill Katko and his family if he didn't support net neutrality.
Syracuse mayor says she won’t run for Congress in 2018
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner says she will not run for Congress next year.
The Democrat had been mentioned as a potential challenger to Republican Rep. John Katko, who represents the Syracuse area.
In a statement released Thursday, Miner said she decided not to run "after much thoughtful consideration and conversations with my family."
Two bills that focus on transportation to crack down on human trafficking have been introduced by U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty and a lawmaker from New York, Esty’s office said.
The two bills introduced by Esty, a three-term Democrat, and U.S. Rep. John Katko, a Republican, would:
Designate a human trafficking prevention coordinator at the U.S. Department of Transportation and increase outreach, education, and reporting at the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
A bill that would reauthorize and increase funding for the federal brownfields program advanced Thursday.
The Brownfields Reauthorization Act, which is authored by U.S. Reps. Elizabeth Esty, D-5th, and John Katko, R-N.Y., passed unanimously out of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. The bill now goes to the House floor for a vote.
Rising Lake Ontario level renews opposition to eco plan
WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. (AP) — Lake Ontario's rising water is furthering New York Congressman Chris Collins' push for the repeal of an environmental plan adopted late in President Barack Obama's administration.
The U.S.-Canadian International Joint Commission approved Plan 2014 as a way to improve environmental conditions along the lake and the St. Lawrence River by letting water levels rise and fall more naturally.

Donald Trump didn't have the support of U.S. Rep. John Katko, but the president-elect came close to winning the congressman's district in central New York.
Results compiled by The Citizen show Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton won the 24th Congressional District, which includes all of Cayuga, Onondaga and Wayne counties, plus a portion of Oswego County.
Clinton received 48.42 percent of the vote in the four-county district. Trump received 45.82 percent of the vote.
