Agency seeks to salvage cottage built by musician’s uncle
SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — A Georgia agency is seeking bids to salvage a 101-year-old Burnside Island cottage built by the uncle of a Savannah songwriter.
The Savannah Morning News reports the bid request to salvage the Robert Mercer Cottage follow calls by preservationists to halt plans to demolish it.

NEW YORK (AP) — Neil Diamond may have retired from touring due to Parkinson's disease, but the singer didn't let that stop him from giving a cheery and memorable performance at the 2018 Songwriters Hall of Fame ceremony.
Diamond, who was officially inducted into the Hall in 1984, earned the Johnny Mercer Award on Thursday and closed the multi-hour event in New York City with a rousing rendition of "Sweet Caroline."

Few singers illustrate the gulf between live and recorded music better than Delbert McClinton, whose gruff voice and blues-infused rock have always sounded best in a beer-splashed nightclub.
But McClinton, now 76, also plies his trade in studios, and while his latest album won't win converts as readily as his live shows, it sure won't hurt him.
