TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey's medical marijuana program has double the number of participating patients since Gov. Phil Murphy took office in January, his administration said Monday.
Murphy said the decade-old program, which began under Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine, has taken "incredible strides" in recent months with the addition of new covered conditions and a plan to double the number of treatment centers to 12.
New Jersey governor names gun-safety adviser
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy named a long-time state government insider as his gun-safety adviser.
The Democratic governor said that Bill Castner will serve as senior adviser on firearms. Murphy made the announcement Monday alongside former NASA astronaut Mark Kelly and one-time Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.
Castner is a former chief counsel to former Gov. Jon Corzine and previously served as the top aide to the Democrat-led Assembly.
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's official portrait will cost $85,000, which is more than taxpayers shelled out for paintings of his three predecessors combined.

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Regulators say the 2017 governor's race in New Jersey was the state's second most expensive, with candidates and independent groups spending more than $79 million.
The New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission says $24.5 million spent by independent groups set a new record. However, executive director Jeff Brindle says state public disclosure rules for such committees are "woefully outdated" and most spending can be done without voters knowing who provided the money.

NEW YORK (AP) — The trial between bankrupt brokerage MF Global, run by former New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine, and its former accounting firm, PwC, came to an unceremonious end on Thursday, with both parties saying they have reached a settlement.
Terms of the settlement were not disclosed. MF Global had been suing PwC for as much as $3 billion.
"The case was settled to the mutual satisfaction of the parties," said PwC spokesman Andrew Wilson.
