AVONDALE, La. (AP) — Kevin Kisner and Scott Brown nearly won the Zurich Classic last year after Kisner's stunning chip shot forced a playoff that they eventually lost. Another good round Friday put the duo back in contention at TPC Louisiana.
Kisner and Brown shot a 2-under 70 to pull within one shot of leaders Michael Kim and Andrew Putnam.
AVONDALE, La. (AP) — Defending Masters champion and world No. 11 Sergio Garcia has committed to play in the PGA Tour's Zurich Classic of New Orleans team event in April.
Tournament chief Steve Worthy, who made the announcement on Tuesday, says Garcia's partner will be fellow Spaniard and Zurich Classic newcomer Rafa Cabrera Bello, who is ranked 21st.
Garcia last played the tournament, held at the TPC Louisiana, in 2010.
SYDNEY (AP) — Cameron Davis came from six shots behind going into the final round to win the Australian Open by one stroke on Sunday, shooting a 7-under 64 that included a birdie on the 18th and an eagle after holing a 100-meter approach shot.
The 22-year-old Australian finished with an 11-under total of 273 at The Australian Golf Club, where gusty and unpredictable afternoon winds made scoring tough for all four rounds.
AVONDALE, La. (AP) — Cameron Smith stood on the edge of the 18th green, wiping away tears at a ceremony complete with alligator skin championship belts and a silver chalice.
The 23-year-old Australian, the youngest and least accomplished player left on the course, had been painstakingly close to his first PGA Tour victory — from the final hole of regulation at the Zurich Classic on Sunday night through the fourth playoff hole Monday.
AVONDALE, La. (AP) — Kevin Kisner deprived the die-hard fans around the rain-soaked 18th hole from seeing a winner in the Zurich Classic's new team format as darkness fell Sunday night.
Not that anyone other than Jonas Blixt and Cameron Smith seemed to mind.
Kisner chipped in for eagle from nearly 95 feet, lifting himself and teammate Scott Brown into a Monday playoff with Blixt and Smith.
AVONDALE, La. (AP) — Kevin Kisner chipped in for eagle on the 18th hole as darkness fell Sunday night at the Zurich Classic, lifting himself and teammate Scott Brown into a Monday playoff with Jonas Blixt and Cameron Smith.
Kisner's chip-in — which skipped on a wet green, hit the pin and dropped in from nearly 95 feet — forced the 23-year-old Smith to make a 1 1/2-foot birdie putt.
AVONDALE, La. (AP) — Jonas Blixt of Sweden and Cameron Smith of Australia apparently are enjoying playing as teammates too much to be unsettled by wind gusts reaching 36 miles per hour.
The pair extended their bogey-free run to three rounds in the new team format at the Zurich Classic, deftly adjusting to winds that unsettled many other PGA Tour pros and posting a 4-under 68 Saturday to widen their lead to four strokes.
