COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Jeremiah Tilmon scored 19 points and Missouri fended off a second-half comeback attempt to defeat Vanderbilt 77-67 Saturday night.
As the contest crept under four minutes with Vanderbilt down just five points, Missouri freshman Torrence Watson drilled a 3-pointer with the shot clock expiring. Jordan Geist knocked down a trey of his own on the next possession to put the Tigers up by 68-59.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Missouri hadn't yet hit the panic button in Southeastern Conference play, but the Tigers' fingers were getting awfully itchy.
"We needed this one bad," Missouri forward Jeremiah Tilmon said following the Tigers' 66-43 thumping of Texas A&M on Saturday. "We started off in the SEC real slow so this was a big confidence builder."
COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — New school, better jump shot for Mark Smith. The sophomore guard scored a career-high 22 points to lead Missouri to a 75-61 victory over Morehead State on Saturday at Mizzou Arena.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Missouri basketball coach Cuonzo Martin is from Illinois, and he has stocked his roster with five scholarship players from his home state. They will enjoy their trips home for Christmas a little more after the Tigers beat Illinois 79-63 Saturday night.
COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Missouri senior point guard Jordan Geist has never been afraid of big moments. Last year, he took the blame when late-game passes and shots went awry. On Sunday, Geist played the hero as he led the Tigers to a 64-62 overtime victory over UCF.
Geist scored a team-high 18 points, including a contested 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.
COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Jordan Geist scored 18 points — including a clutch 3-pointer at the end of regulation — to lead Missouri to a 64-62 overtime victory over UCF on Sunday.
Javon Pickett added 13 points and Jeremiah Tilmon had 10 for Missouri (4-3). Tilmon's up-and-under layup around UCF's 7-foot-6 Tacko Fall with 1:32 left in OT provided the winning margin.
COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Quinton Rose scored 18 points to lead Temple to a 79-77 victory over Missouri.

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — After former Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy stepped down on Sunday, interim coach Tony Madlock told his team to start fresh.
The Rebels did, battling through a double-digit Missouri comeback and an overtime session to beat the Tigers 90-87 and pick up their first road victory in conference play.
COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Tennessee cut Missouri's lead to one with 1:33 left, and the Tigers were forced to do something they've struggled with all season: close out a game.
Unlike two recent last-second conference losses, Missouri sealed one up Wednesday night, holding on to beat No. 21 Tennessee 59-55.
"One thing in our two losses we had is our margin of error is so slim," Missouri forward Kevin Puryear said.
COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Missouri's Jontay Porter didn't hesitate. Jordan Geist flung a pass to the freshman forward, who took one step, jumped over 6-foot-8 Georgia forward Yante Maten and crashed the ball into the net.
The crowd at Mizzou Arena erupted, foreshadowing the explosiveness Missouri would have in the second half on Wednesday night. On the drive after Porter's dunk, Geist stole the ball from William Jackson III and made the layup to cut Georgia's lead to three at the halftime buzzer.
COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — On the game's decisive play, Florida's Chris Chiozza was assigned to guard Jordan Barnett, who was standing in front of the Missouri bench. But when a soft pass from the opposite wing was directed toward Kassius Robertson at the top of the key, Chiozza sprang into action.
The senior guard stepped in to steal the pass from Jordan Geist and then coasted to the other end for a layup just before the buzzer to the give the Gators a 77-75 victory Saturday at Mizzou Arena.
COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — When new Missouri coach Cuonzo Martin overhauled the roster in the offseason with a top-five recruiting class, it appeared from the outside that feisty but offensively challenged junior guard Jordan Geist could be an odd man out.
As it turned out, Geist was just Martin's type. And in Saturday night's 100-77 victory over Green Bay, he was an offensive machine.
