UT Rio Grande Valley (9-8, 1-0) outscored the Lancers 21-7 in the final five minutes. Smith scored seven points and Jordan Jackson had six of his eight points during the stretch. Smith's 3-pointer gave the Vaqueros a 72-70 lead with 1:52 remaining.

EDINBURG, Texas (AP) — Terry Winn III made two free throws and Javon Levi hit a jumper in the final seconds to give UT Rio Grande Valley enough cushion to hold off McNeese 68-64 on Saturday night.
Tyson Smith split a pair of free throws to give UT Rio Grande Valley a 63-62 lead with 1:51 left. McNeese could not answer and Winn made the free throws to push the lead to 65-62 with 1:08 remaining before Levi hit his late jumper.

EDINBURG, Texas (AP) — Javon Levi scored 15 points and made a career-high six steals to lead four Vaqueros in double-digit scoring and UT Rio Grande Valley got 21 steals and forced 30 turnovers to beat North Dakota 70-56 on Wednesday night for the Fighting Hawks' fourth straight loss.
Jordan Jackson scored 13 points with three steals, Terry Winn II had 12 and Greg Bowie II added 10 for the Vaqueros (7-4), who shot 36 percent and made 20 of 25 free throws. Johnny Crnogorac blocked three shots.

HOUSTON (AP) — Corey Davis Jr. scored 23 points, Armoni Brooks grabbed 12 rebounds and Houston beat Texas Rio Grande Valley 58-53 on Wednesday night.
It was Houston's final home game at Texas Southern's H&PE Arena before opening the new Fertitta Center on Saturday with a sold-out game against No. 18 Oregon.
The Cougars played at Texas Southern's gym for the entire 2017-18 season, reeling off 20 straight home wins. The streak is tied for the second-longest active home streak in the nation.
Mississippi Valley State beats Rust of the NAIA, 102-62
ITTA BENA, Miss. (AP) — Dante Scott scored 15 points and Mississippi Valley State rolled to a 102-61 victory over Rust of the NAIA on Wednesday night.
The Delta Devils (2-6) have won two of their last three games since opening the season losing five straight, four by double digits.
Scott was 7-of-14 shooting. Jordan Evans added 11 points and Aleksa Koracin had 10 for Mississippi Valley State, which had 16 players get minutes with 14 scoring.

EDINBURG, Texas (AP) — Lesley Varner II tied a career high with 21 points and UT Rio Grande Valley overcame a 24-point deficit to beat Lamar 77-75 on Friday night.
The Vaqueros (4-3) became the 28th team in NCAA history to overcome a deficit of 24 or more points while setting the program record with the comeback.
