More woes for Florida: Sherit out for year after hip surgery
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Florida defensive end Jordan Sherit had season-ending hip surgery, the latest setback for coach Jim McElwain's team.
Sherit injured his hip in the second half of a home loss to Texas A&M last Saturday and was eventually carted off the field.
A fifth-year senior from Tampa, Sherit ranks sixth on the teams with 23 tackles and second with 2 ½ sacks.
It's unclear how long Sherit will need to recover, but McElwain says "it's a bad deal."

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Florida quarterback Kyle Trask had knee surgery Wednesday and is expected to make a full recovery in four weeks.
A redshirt freshman from Manvel, Texas, Trask fell behind projected starter Feleipe Franks during spring practice and was outplayed in the annual Orange & Blue game last week. Working mostly with the second-team offense and against the starting defense, Trask completed 6 of 15 passes for 66 yards, with an interception.
No. 15 Florida will be without DE Sherit for SEC title game
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — No. 15 Florida will be without starting defensive end Jordan Sherit for the Southeastern Conference championship game against top-ranked Alabama.
Coach Jim McElwain made the announcement on a conference call Sunday, adding "we took some significant hits again."
Sherit injured his right knee in a loss at Florida State on Saturday. Nickel cornerback Duke Dawson (ankle) and left guard Martez Ivey (leg) also left the game.
No. 13 Florida focused on slowing down FSU’s Dalvin Cook
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Florida defensive end Jordan Sherit calls Florida State's Dalvin Cook "the best back we'll face."
Better than Nick Chubb, Leonard Fournette, Derrius Guice, Rawleigh Williams and every other running back who has lined up against the 13th-ranked Gators this season.
So it's no surprise that containing Cook is Florida's top priority when it travels to Tallahassee to play the No. 15 Seminoles (8-3) on Saturday night. Few have done it, not even the Gators (8-2).
Facing tough slate, No. 10 Florida wants to ‘finish strong’
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Florida defensive end Jordan Sherit doesn't want to forget what happened down the stretch last year.
The third-year sophomore plans to use the painful memory of last season's collapse — the Gators dropped their final three games in lopsided fashion — as motivation this time around.
"The fact that we do have that is going to help us go forward," Sherit said.
