Star high school point guard Trae Young commits to Oklahoma
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Five-star Norman North point guard Trae Young verbally committed to Oklahoma on Thursday.
The McDonald's All-American, who is averaging 43 points per game as a senior, made the announcement during a ceremony at his school. He picked the Sooners over Oklahoma State and Kansas.
Young is coach Lon Kruger's biggest catch — Buddy Hield wasn't nearly as highly recruited coming out of high school.

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — This time, even without their leader, Oklahoma held onto a late lead and celebrated a win.
Playing for the first time without standout senior guard Jordan Woodard — who suffered a career-ending knee injury in a game three days earlier — Oklahoma hung on to beat Texas 70-66 on Tuesday night.

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma guard Jordan Woodard knew something was wrong after he went down in the second half against Iowa State on Saturday, yet his mind was on returning to the court.
For the most part, he's always come back, no matter the bump or bruise. The senior had been an ironman for Oklahoma, having started every game his first three years and most of the games this season.
He finally got caught. Woodard's season, and his college career, ended with a torn ACL in his right knee.

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma point guard Jordan Woodard is out for the season with a torn ACL in his right knee, effectively ending his college career.
Woodard injured the knee during the second half of Saturday's 80-64 loss at Iowa State. The school announced Woodard's status Sunday in a news release after he underwent tests and evaluations.
Burton’s 31 points lead Iowa St. over Oklahoma in 2OT
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Iowa State coach Steve Prohm liked what he learned about his team on Saturday.
Deonte Burton scored a career-high 31 points, and Iowa State rallied from a 19-point first-half deficit to beat Oklahoma 92-87 in double overtime.
"I just want to say how proud I am of these guys," Prohm said. "All of them. They go in tough situations and build their character. Our character is what we try to highlight every day."
Oklahoma beats Texas Tech 84-75 for first Big 12 win
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Texas Tech coach Chris Beard knew his team was in trouble when Oklahoma senior guard Jordan Woodard's name showed up in the starting lineup. Woodard confirmed those fears by scoring 27 points as the Sooners broke a seven-game losing streak with an 84-75 win over the Red Raiders.
It was Woodard's first start in six games after battling an injury and illness.
Auburn beats Oklahoma 74-70 Birthday of Basketball showcase
UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) — T.J. Dunans celebrated his 24th birthday Wednesday by scoring a career-high 21 points to lead Auburn over Oklahoma in the Basketball Hall of Fame's Birth of Basketball showcase.
Jared Harper also had 21 points for the Tigers, who built a 17-point second-half lead Wednesday night, then held off the Sooners 74-70.
James, Woodard lead Oklahoma romp past Oral Roberts, 92-66
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Christian James scored a team-high 17 points in just 22 minutes, and Jordan Woodard added 15 points as Oklahoma overcame a sluggish start to cruise past Oral Roberts, 92-66, on Wednesday night.
Oklahoma needed a strong performance following a 20-point loss to Wisconsin Saturday, and forced its in-state counterpart in the wrong direction.

Oklahoma holds off Clemson 70-64
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Jordan Woodard scored 21 points and handed out nine assists Sunday to help Oklahoma hold off Clemson 70-64 in the third-place game of the Tire Pros Invitational.
Christian James had 17 points, including three critical 3-pointers late in the game, and Kameron McGusty added 14 points for Oklahoma (3-1).
Jaron Blossomgame had 19 points for Clemson (2-2), while Sidy Djitte scored 14 to go with 14 rebounds and Marquise Reed added 10 points.
Oklahoma runs past Tulane for 89-70 win
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) — Oklahoma missed some shots they normally make and committed some head-scratching turnovers in the first half against Tulane on Thursday night.
The next thing the Sooners knew, they were in a heck of a game.
Lattin leads new-look Oklahoma past Northwestern State 97-61
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Khadeem Lattin showed he could also be a force on the offensive end for Oklahoma during the Sooners' season opener on Sunday.
The junior forward, mostly called upon for his defense to this point in his career, showed his offensive chops against Northwestern State, posting a career-high 19 points to go with 11 rebounds and lifting Oklahoma to a 97-61 rout.
