DENVER (AP) — The U.S. Olympic Committee is trying to remove itself as a defendant in lawsuits by gold medalists McKayla Maroney, Jordyn Wieber and Aly Raisman, three of the gymnasts who sued the federation and others for their roles in the Larry Nassar sex-abuse scandal.
Washington — Olympic stars Jordyn Wieber and Jamie Dantzcher, retired gymnasts abused by Larry Nassar, will testify Wednesday afternoon before a U.S. Senate committee on the role of amateur sports organizations in protecting aspiring Olympians from sexual and other abuse.
Attorneys for Olympic Gold Medal gymnast Jordyn Wieber filed a lawsuit Tuesday against Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics, saying they knowingly failed to protect her and others from sexual abuse by former team doctor Larry Nassar.
Wieber repeatedly was molested by Nassar from age 12 or 13 until she was 17 years old, according to her attorney, John Manly, who called MSU and USA Gymnastics "enablers" that allowed the abuse to continue.

Facing an ultimatum from the U.S. Olympic Committee, USA Gymnastics said Friday its entire board of directors will resign over the sexual abuse scandal involving Dr. Larry Nassar, convicted of molesting female athletes, some as young as 6.

The Latest: USA Gymnastics suspends ex-women’s coach Geddert
LANSING, Mich. (AP) — The Latest on the sentencing of former sports doctor Larry Nassar (all times local):
USA Gymnastics has suspended former U.S. women's national team coach John Geddert, the owner of the Twistars gymnastics club near Lansing, Michigan.

Lansing — The numbers are mind-numbing. The stories leave you speechless.

Smith leads US women’s gymnastics world championship team
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — National champion Ragan Smith and Olympic alternate Ashton Locklear will lead the U.S. women's gymnastics team to the world championships in Montreal next month.
Jade Carey and Morgan Hurd also will compete for the four-woman U.S. team when the event begins on Oct. 4. Jordan Chiles, who finished runner-up to Smith at the national championships in August, will serve as the alternate.
The end of her gymnastics career hit Jordyn Wieber suddenly. Too far removed from high-intensity training and ineligible to compete in college because she turned pro in high school, the 2011 world champion and 2012 Olympic gold medalist needed a place to vent.
So Wieber — at the time a student manager for the UCLA women's program — made her way to the office of Bruins' coach Valorie Kondos Field and wept.
