American Mikaela Shiffrin finally made her Pyeongchang Olympic debut on Day 6 of the Winter Games, speeding to gold in the women's giant slalom after several days of weather delays.
Bloemen ends Dutch dominance at the Olympic Oval
GANGNEUNG, South Korea (AP) — The roots of Ted-Jan Bloemen will have many saying his Olympic gold medal in speedskating is at least part Dutch.
Forget it. His recipe for victory in the 10,000 meters was as Canadian as maple syrup.
"Everything changed for me," Bloemen said of his move to North America. "I had a whole different country, different continent, different culture, different team around me, different coach."
Old French-Dutch match-fixing attempt surfaces at Olympics
GANGNEUNG, South Korea (AP) — The Dutch Olympic team was hit by a 4-year-old match-fixing scandal involving one of its speedskating coaches on Thursday.
The Dutch Olympic committee said it has officially warned Jillert Anema, who also worked for the French team, for an attempt at match-fixing in the Olympic team pursuit four years ago at the Sochi Games.
Kramer wins 8th 5000m world speedskating title
PYEONCGCHANG, South Korea (AP) — Sven Kramer won his eighth world 5,000-meter title after a duel with Dutch countryman Jorrit Bergsma at the world single distances speedskating championships on the 2018 Olympic track on Thursday.
Hardly outdone, compatriot Ireen Wust regained the 3,000 title from Martina Sablikova of the Czech Republic.
Kramer didn't put any light between him and Bergsma until the 3,000 split. Kramer clocked 6 minutes, 6.82 seconds, and Bergsma was less than three seconds behind.
