No. 7 UCF, Memphis not strangers to AAC championship game
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — There are no shortcuts in unbeaten UCF's quest for perfection.
The seventh-ranked Knights (11-0, 8-0, No. 8 CFP) are one victory away from their second straight American Athletic Conference championship, a likely New Year's Six bowl bid, and bolstering their argument that they are deserving of consideration for a berth in the College Football Playoff.
None of that is possible, though, without beating Memphis (8-4, 5-3) in Saturday's AAC title game.
No. 8 UCF remains unbeaten, but loses QB Milton in 38-10 win
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — McKenzie Milton's teammates crowded around the injured UCF quarterback, some kneeling in prayer and others offering comforting words.
"Our guys care deeply about everybody on our football team, and certainly McKenzie," coach Josh Heupel said after the eighth-ranked Knights rebounded from losing their leader to an apparent right knee injury to finish a 38-10 rout of intrastate rival South Florida on Friday.
No. 8 UCF has goals beyond beating archrival South Florida
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — No. 8 UCF isn't content with having the nation's longest winning streak. The Knights want more. A lot more.
The defending American Athletic Conference champions can complete a second consecutive undefeated regular season by beating intrastate rival South Florida on Friday.
Next on their list of goals is winning the AAC championship game — which they'll host on Dec. 1 — to remain in the conversation about which teams are deserving of berths in the College Football Playoff.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — No. 11 UCF is becoming predictable as the Knights pursue another undefeated season.

No. 11 UCF focused on Navy, not playoff picture
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — No. 11 UCF, heavily favored to beat Navy to remain unbeaten and extend the nation's longest winning streak to 22 games, insists the Knights aren't paying attention to chatter about their chances of winding up in the College Football Playoff.
"We talk about it every day. ... Outside noise has no impact on what we are," coach Josh Heupel reiterated.

No. 9 UCF faces Temple in key American Conference matchup
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Josh Heupel, whose ninth-ranked UCF Knights have the nation's longest winning streak, calmly answered another question about whether he feels the American Athletic Conference is underappreciated.

Without Milton, No. 10 UCF beats ECU 37-10 for 20th straight
GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) — No. 10 UCF didn't have its Heisman Trophy hopeful, so the Knights' opportunistic defense kept taking the ball from East Carolina and giving it to their backup quarterback.

Milton out of starting lineup for No. 10 UCF at ECU

No. 10 UCF rally for 31-30 comeback victory over Memphis
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — With No. 10 Central Florida struggling and the nation's longest winning streak in jeopardy, first-year coach Josh Heupel decided to take a gamble.
Facing fourth-and-1 in Memphis territory late in the third quarter and down 13 points, Heupel sent his offense back on the field and gave the ball to Taj McGowan. With the Tigers' defense bunched at the line of scrimmage, McGowan burst through the line and went 71 yards for a touchdown.
Milton, No. 12 UCF beats SMU 48-20 for 18th straight win
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Unbeaten and barely tested.
No. 12 UCF won again by double digits Saturday night, continuing to build a resume the Knights hope will be worthy of consideration for a College Football Playoff berth in December.

Milton accounts for 6 TDs, No. 13 UCF routs Pitt 45-14
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — No. 13 UCF is unbeaten and getting better.
That's what's most important to coach Josh Heupel right now. Not whether Saturday's 45-14 rout of Power 5 conference opponent Pittsburgh sent a message to the College Football Playoff selection committee or skeptics who question how good the Knights are because of their schedule.
No. 13 UCF puts 16-game winning streak against Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh (2-2) at No. 13 UCF (3-0), 3:30 p.m. ET (ESPNU).

WHAT'S AT STAKE?
UCF aims to extend nation's longest winning streak to 17 games and stay on course to be a part of College Football Playoff conversation in December. The Panthers 51-6 at home to Penn State on Sept. 8.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — UCF is determined to not let complacency creep into its game.
The 19th-ranked Knights will take the nation's longest winning streak into Saturday's home opener against heavy underdog South Carolina State, however coach Josh Heupel and his players won't be content with simply tacking on a 15th consecutive victory.
Lock leads Missouri in rout of UT Martin

WHAT'S AT STAKE?
UCF hopes to show that a coaching change (Scott Frost is off to Nebraska, replaced by former Missouri OC Josh Heupel) won't impact its status as the class of the American Athletic Conference and quarterback McKenzie Milton can establish himself early as a candidate for the Heisman Trophy.
Heupel takes over talented UCF team with great expectations
Josh Heupel has either the most difficult job of any head coach in the country taking over a new team or the easiest. Maybe it's both.
Hired to replace Scott Frost at Central Florida, Heupel takes over a team that went unbeaten last season and declared itself the national champion. Most of the playmakers return from one of the best offenses in the country, including gifted quarterback McKenzie Milton.
Missouri hoping to build off Lock’s return, strong finish
COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — When former Missouri offensive coordinator Josh Heupel left to become the head coach at Central Florida last year, it meant that Tigers quarterback Drew Lock would play his senior season with a third offensive coordinator in four years.

Missouri offense looking to build off last season
COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — When Missouri started the 2017-18 schedule 1-3, all the losses at home, the Tigers seemed on their way to another disappointing season.
Instead, Missouri's offense flipped a switch, becoming one of the most high-powered attacks in college football. Drew Lock broke the Southeastern Conference single-season record with 44 touchdown passes and Missouri scored more than 40 points in each of its last six regular-season games.
