Santa Clara holds off 2nd half Pacific rally, 64-59
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Tahj Eaddy hit three of four free throws in the final half minute and Santa Clara held off a furious second-half rally from Pacific for a 64-59 win in a West Coast Conference battle on Saturday night.
Pacific, which trailed at intermission by 20 points, 41-21, got within three points twice in the final 1:19, but could not get closer.
The Tigers hit 22 of 50 from the field (44 percent) and knocked down 5 of 16 from distance while collecting 12 assists on 22 made baskets.
Ford carries Saint Mary’s (Cal) over Santa Clara 66-55
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Jordan Ford had 23 points as Saint Mary's beat Santa Clara 66-55 on Thursday night.
Malik Fitts had 16 points for Saint Mary's (16-10, 7-4 West Coast Conference). Tanner Krebs added 13 points. Jordan Hunter had 4 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks for the visitors.
Tahj Eaddy had 13 points for the Broncos (13-13, 5-7). Trey Wertz added 11 points. Josh Martin had eight rebounds.
Santa Clara rebounds in OT to beat Portland 69-63
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Keshawn Justice scored 17 points on Saturday night, including the first four points of overtime, and Santa Clara beat Portland 69-63 despite blowing an 11-point, second-half lead.
Eaddy has career night, leads Santa Clara past San Diego
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Tahj Eaddy scored 21 of his career-high 30 points in the first half to help Santa Clara open West Coast Conference play with a 68-56 win over San Diego on Thursday night.
The Broncos (9-6) never trailed and pulled away with 13 straight points to a 25-5 lead in the first half. Eaddy scored 11 points during that run and Santa Clara led 35-18 at halftime.
Santa Clara wins 4th straight, 77-56 over Idaho
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Josh Martin and Josip Vrankic scored 13 points each, Trey Wertz added 10 points and 10 assists, and Santa Clara won its fourth in a row with a 77-56 victory over Idaho on Friday night.
Tahj Eaddy had 12 points and Keshawn Justice added 10 for the Broncos (7-6), who have won six of their last seven.
Santa Clara led 37-23 at halftime and led by no less than 14 in the second half, building to its largest lead at 77-47 before the Vandals (3-8) closed the game on a 9-0 run.
Santa Clara holds off USC in double overtime 102-92
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Trey Wertz implored his teammates to stay positive after Santa Clara wasted a big lead in the final minutes of regulation. Then the Broncos freshman took over in overtime to make sure they stayed upbeat.
Wertz scored 11 of his 28 points in the second overtime, Josip Vrankic had a career-high 22 points and Santa Clara held on after blowing a 19-point lead in regulation, beating Southern California 102-92 on Tuesday night.
Santa Clara rolls past Mississippi Valley State 82-54
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Josh Martin had 14 points and 12 rebounds and Santa Clara rolled to an 82-54 victory over Mississippi Valley State on Thursday night.
Santa Clara (5-6) has won four of its last five games since opening the season with four consecutive losses. Mississippi Valley State (2-10) has lost four straight and is 0-9 on the road.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Trey Wertz scored a career-high 33 points on 9-of-15 shooting Thursday night to help Santa Clara beat Jackson State 81-70.
Wertz made 4 of 6 from 3-point range and 11 of 13 at the foul line. Josip Vrankic added 19 points and Josh Martin had 14 rebounds to go with six points.
The Broncos (2-5) never trailed in the game and had their largest lead at 69-57. It was Santa Clara's second win in a row after opening the season with five straight losses.
Jets place OLB Josh Martin on IR with another concussion
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets have placed outside linebacker Josh Martin on injured reserve after he suffered a second concussion in just over five weeks.
Martin was projected as a starter this season on defense, but sat out the first three games after injuring his head during the Jets' third preseason game against the Giants on Aug. 24. He made his regular-season debut Sunday at Jacksonville, but left with a concussion.
Browns missing starting LB Kirksey for matchup with Jets
CLEVELAND (AP) — Browns starting linebacker Christian Kirksey will sit out Thursday night's game against the New York Jets with an ankle injury.
One of Cleveland's captains, Kirksey also missed last week's game at New Orleans, the first time he sat out a game in his NFL career after playing in 65 straight. James Burgess will start for Kirksey as the Browns try to snap a 19-game winless streak.
Jets S Maye doubtful vs. Browns; LB Martin, TE Sterling out
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — New York Jets starting safety Marcus Maye is doubtful to play in the team's game Thursday night against the Cleveland Browns because of a foot injury.
Maye has not played in a regular-season game because of the ailment. The Jets have not specified the nature of the injury. Maye had arthroscopic ankle surgery in the offseason, but this latest injury is unrelated.
Doug Middleton has filled in for Maye in the starting lineup and ranks fourth on the team with 11 tackles.
Jets’ Kearse appears ready to play, Maye doubtful
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — New York Jets wide receiver Jermaine Kearse practiced fully for the third straight day and appears ready to play after sitting out the season opener with an abdominal injury.
Kearse was hurt during training camp and needed surgery but has made a quick recovery. He was the Jets' leading receiver last season with 65 catches. Kearse says he's feeling good, but coach Todd Bowles would not yet confirm that the receiver will play against the Dolphins on Sunday.
Abdullah inactive for Lions; Jets without Maye, Kearse
DETROIT (AP) — Lions running back Ameer Abdullah is inactive for Detroit's game Monday night against the New York Jets.
The Jets are without safety Marcus Maye (foot) and wide receiver Jermaine Kearse (abdomen), both of whom had been doubtful. New York linebacker Josh Martin was ruled out previously because of a concussion.

Wide receiver Jermaine Kearse, safety Marcus Maye and outside linebacker Josh Martin all sat out practice Thursday with injuries.
Kearse, Maye and Martin are all projected starters for the Jets, who open their season Monday night at Detroit. The team, which released its first injury report of the week on Thursday, has two more days of full practices.
UC Santa Barbara pulls away from Cal Poly 86-61
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) — Leland King II and Max Heidegger scored 23 points each to propel UC Santa Barbara past Cal Poly for an 86-61 win Saturday night.
Jalen Canty added 14 points and Marcus Jackson had 10 for Santa Barbara, which shot 56 percent from the field and got 27 assists on its 34 baskets.
The Gauchos (22-8, 11-5 Big West Conference) took control with two 14-0 runs.
Fields jumper gives Cal Poly 71-68 edge over UC Riverside
SAN LUIS OPISBO, Calif. (AP) — Donovan Fields sank a jumper with seconds to play to put Cal Poly on top for a 71-68 win over UC Riverside on Wednesday night.
The Mustangs (7-15, 2-6 Big West) led 38-34 at halftime but fell behind in the second half to trail 58-56 with 8:21 to play. They stayed close, tying the score twice before Fields hit his jumper with 12 seconds left to put them on top, 69-68. Victor Joseph sank two free throws in the final seconds for the final score.
Dawson, Shreiner have double-doubles, CSUN beats Cal Poly
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Tavrion Dawson had 23 points and 10 rebounds and Lyrik Shreiner scored 12 points with a career-high 11 boards and CSU Northridge beat Cal Poly 72-54 on Saturday night.
Freshman Terrell Gomez added 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting and Micheal Warren scored 10 for CSUN (5-14, 2-3 Big West).
UC Irvine fends off late Cal Poly rally in 80-73 win
IRVINE, Calif. (AP) — Tommy Rutherford scored 20 points, leading four into double figures, as UC Irvine held off a second-half rally to defeat Cal Poly 80-73 Thursday night.
The Anteaters (8-13, 3-2 Big West) led by as many as 20 in the second half only to see Cal Poly whittle that down to seven points. But by that time, only 36 seconds remained and Evan Leonard sank a pair of free throws.
Cal Poly beats DII Notre Dame de Namure 73-40 to snap skid
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) — Donovan Fields scored 12 points and Josh Martin got his fifth career double-double to help Cal Poly snap a five-game skid with a 73-40 win over Division II Notre Dame de Namur on Saturday night.
Martin had 11 rebounds to go with 10 points, Victor Joseph added 11 points and Marcellus Garrick also finished with 10 points for Cal Poly, which controlled the glass 42-30.
Princeton hits 16 3s, beats Cal Poly 80-60
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) — Myles Stephens had a career-high 16 points and Princeton made a season-high 16 3-pointers in an 80-60 win over Cal Poly on Saturday night.
The Tigers (4-6) had a 35-18 lead at halftime and, after Cal Poly scored the opening four points of the second half, went on a 16-2 run to lead 51-24 before the 16-minute mark. The Mustangs (4-7) got the deficit no closer than the final score.
Bethune-Cookman holds off Cal Poly, 67-53
DAYTON BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Malik Maitland scored 21 points, Shawntrez Davis added 19 and Bethune-Cookman beat Cal Poly 67-53 on Tuesday night.
Maitland was 8 of 17 from the floor and made three 3-pointers. Davis was 6-of-14 shooting and had 10 rebounds. Isaiah Bailey chipped in 11 points for Bethune-Cookman (5-5). Soufiyane Diakite and Houston Smith each grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
Powell, Wilkerson questionable for Jets vs. Patriots
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — New York Jets running back Bilal Powell and defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson are questionable to play against the New England Patriots on Sunday because of injuries.
Neither Powell nor Wilkerson practiced this week. Powell, the Jets' leading rusher, has a strained calf, while Wilkerson is dealing with a sprained shoulder and a toe injury.
Coach Todd Bowles says Friday that both players will likely be game-time decisions.
Jets’ Forte remains sidelined, appears unlikely to play
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — New York Jets running back Matt Forte remains sidelined with turf toe and a knee ailment, and could miss his second straight game.
Coach Todd Bowles says Thursday that it would be unlikely Forte will play at Cleveland on Sunday if he doesn't participate in practice on Friday. Bilal Powell started in Forte's place last weekend and ran for a career-high 163 yards in the Jets' 23-20 win over Jacksonville.

Jets rookie Jenkins leaves practice with calf injury
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — New York Jets rookie linebacker Jordan Jenkins left practice with a calf injury, the severity of which was not immediately known.
Jenkins, a third-round draft pick out of Georgia, is considered a front-runner to open the season as a starter at outside linebacker.
