Redskins full of uncertainty after injury-riddled season
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — The Washington Redskins' constantly changing personnel reminded cornerback Josh Norman of a game show.
"It's like watching 'Jeopardy,'" Norman said as players cleaned out their lockers on Monday. "You watch 'Jeopardy?' When you watch it, do you see the same people?"
Washington now on verge of elimination after blown lead
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Washington cornerback Josh Norman sat in his locker still in his uniform 45 minutes after the Redskins' latest and costliest loss.
Norman and the rest of the Redskins left all they had left on the field.
Josh Johnson threw for 153 yards and a touchdown in his second straight start as Washington's fourth different quarterback this season only to be intercepted not once, but twice in the final 1:17 Saturday in a 25-16 loss to the Tennessee Titans.
Redskins are unraveling amid four-game losing streak
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — The Washington Redskins have lost four in a row, are down to their fourth quarterback and are mired in criticism from several players.
A once-promising season has gone off the rails thanks to injuries on the offense and blown assignments and missed tackles on defense. The finger-pointing is well underway on a team that has fallen to 6-7 and there is plenty of blame to go around.
Redskins defense struggling lately, especially on 3rd down
WASHINGTON (AP) — Missed tackles. Missed assignments. Missed communication. All are plausible explanations for what's gone wrong with the Washington Redskins' defense lately.
A unit that was a big reason for the team's strong start to the season is also now a big reason for the Redskins' rapid descent to 6-6 and a three-game losing streak heading into Sunday's matchup against the visiting New York Giants.
Redskins’ home-field disadvantage in spotlight vs Texans
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Home sweet home? Not so much for Redskins players right now.
Even though Washington has won three of five home games this season and leads the NFC East, cornerback Josh Norman called out Redskins fans in the aftermath of an ugly victory at Tampa Bay and said he felt they played better on the road. In the process, he put the spotlight on the atmosphere Sunday at FedEx Field when the AFC South-leading Houston Texans come to town.
Redskins’ Norman pushes back on Eric Reid’s ‘sellout’ claim
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Redskins cornerback Josh Norman pushed back Thursday on Eric Reid's criticism of Malcolm Jenkins and The Players Coalition.
Reid and Jenkins had a heated exchange before Sunday's game between Reid's Carolina Panthers and Jenkins' Philadelphia Eagles.
Jenkins co-founded The Players Coalition, a group focused on racial and social justice. Reid, a former member, took issue with the group's direction and expressed his concerns following the Panthers' 21-17 win.
Rivera says loss to Redskins ‘won’t define’ Panthers season
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Panthers coach Ron Rivera is eager to make sure his players put an ugly loss to the Redskins behind them before packing their bags and heading to Philadelphia to face the defending champion Eagles.
"Learn and grow from it and move on," Rivera said matter-of-factly on Monday.
The Panthers seemed to have all of the momentum on their side entering the game at Washington.
Norman intercepts Newton, Redskins beat Panthers 23-17
LANDOVER, Md. (AP) — Following his prime-time benching and criticism from a former teammate, Josh Norman wanted to shut off his phone because the noise was getting so loud.
Then, he silenced it all.
Norman bounced back from one of the worst games of his career by intercepting Cam Newton and forcing a fumble in the Washington Redskins' 23-17 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
What a week for Josh Norman, whose Redskins take on Panthers
LANDOVER, Md. (AP) — What a week for Washington Redskins cornerback Josh Norman.
There was a benching during a 24-point loss. Criticism from a former teammate. Biting Twitter barbs from an opposing receiver.
What better way to cap it all off than a matchup for his Redskins (2-2) on Sunday against Cam Newton and the visiting Carolina Panthers (3-1), the club that abruptly parted with Norman about 2½ years ago.
Skins CB Josh Norman: Nothing wrong with being ‘Hollywood’
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — It didn't bother Washington Redskins cornerback Josh Norman in the least that he was called out for wanting to be a celebrity. Indeed, Norman embraced the critique from a past teammate.
"I've been 'Hollywood,'" Norman said after the team's walkthrough Wednesday. "Ever since I came out of my mama's womb, I've been 'Hollywood.'"
Norman was reacting to comments by former Redskins defensive back DeAngelo Hall during a radio interview with 106.7 The Fan on Tuesday.
Redskins LT Trent Williams has ‘minor’ procedure on knee
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Washington Redskins left tackle Trent Williams had what coach Jay Gruden called "a minor" procedure on his knee and is expected to be able to play in the team's next game.
Gruden said Monday that Williams was scheduled for the "bursa sac cleanup" during the bye week and should return for Washington's game at the New Orleans Saints on Oct. 8.
The knee has been "irritating" Williams for a couple of weeks, Gruden said.
Capitals try to forget Cup celebrations as NHL camps open
When Alex Ovechkin embraced Josh Norman in a meeting of two of Washington's biggest sports stars, the Redskins cornerback had a question for the Capitals' Stanley Cup-winning captain.
"You still celebrating?" Norman asked.
"We're done," Ovechkin said. "We're done for right now."

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — With the rehab behind him and the pain gone, three-time New York Giants Pro Bowl wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is returning to the NFL with an even bigger target on his back, and an outspoken Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback ready to take a shot at him.
Redskins: Doctson OK after landing hard on left shoulder
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden says wide receiver Josh Doctson is OK after landing hard on his left shoulder.
Gruden said Thursday "everything checked out fine" after an evaluation. The third-year receiver is expected to be held out of at least one practice, but Gruden insisted it's not a problem.
Doctson got tangled up with cornerback Josh Norman during red-zone drills at training camp Thursday and left with trainers. He posted on Twitter that he was OK.
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Alex Smith is frustrating Josh Norman.
Norman likes having Smith with the Washington Redskins, but practice time against the veteran quarterback at training camp hasn't been as beneficial as the big-money cornerback had hoped. That's because Smith has been so on-point with his decision-making and throws that Norman isn't getting a whole lot of work in team drills.
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Panthers rookie cornerback Donte Jackson is showing he can talk the talk.
Now coach Ron Rivera is hoping the team's second-round draft pick can walk the walk.
The Louisiana State standout has already turned heads at training camp, displaying impressive speed — and a cocky swagger to match.
"He is fast, and I love his confidence level," Rivera said of the 5-foot-10, 180-pound Jackson. "We haven't had a guy like that since Josh Norman."
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Josh Norman thought football was difficult.
Then he appeared on "Dancing With the Stars."
The Washington Redskins cornerback had some impressive performances with dance partner Sharna Burgess on the show in Los Angeles and each week took a red-eye back to the East Coast for the team's offseason program. Norman and Burgess finished second to skater Adam Rippon and Jenna Johnson.
Washington Redskins cornerback Josh Norman tangles with opposing wide receivers all the time on the football field.
Now, he's set to tangle with an actual dance partner.
Norman will join ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" for the show's 26th season, the network announced Friday. The show will air April 30 and feature an "Athletes Only" edition.
Denzel Ward, Ohio State cornerback, to Redskins in Sports Illustrated mock draft
In the latest mock draft published by Sports Illustrated's MMQB, Albert Breer has the Washington Redskins selecting Ohio State cornerback Denzel Ward.
In 11 games in 2017, Ward recorded 37 tackles, two interceptions and 15 pass breakups for the Buckeyes. He was a consensus All-American, making the Associated Press's first team, and is considered the top cornerback in the draft class.
WASHINGTON (AP) — A person with direct knowledge of the move says the Washington Redskins have signed cornerback Orlando Scandrick to a two-year deal worth up to $10 million.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Monday because the team had not announced the deal.
Cornerback Bashaud Breeland will be leaving the Washington Redskins for the Carolina Panthers, agreeing Tuesday to a three-year, $24 million deal with $11 million guaranteed, according to multiple reports.
Breeland, 26, spent the last four seasons in Washington after being a fourth-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. After a promising 2015 season, Breeland was inconsistent in his two years opposite of Josh Norman. He started 15 games last season.
Muhammad Wilkerson, Allen Robinson among free agents to watch for Redskins
Even though the Washington Redskins will have $31 million in salary cap space, they won't necessarily swing for the fences when the negotiating window for free agency opens Monday.
History has shown the Redskins are willing to tackle the market in different ways. In January, Redskins coach Jay Gruden revealed Washington went after defensive lineman Calais Campbell last season, but settled for linemen Stacy McGee and Terrell McClain.
At various moments last season, Redskins cornerback Josh Norman was frustrated with Washington's lack of success. In December amid a two-game losing streak, Norman said he joined the Redskins to compete for championships, not be stuck in mediocrity.
Norman's comments, at the time, fueled speculation whether the cornerback wanted to be with the Redskins in the future.
Now, a new report wonders if the feeling is mutual.
Now that Washington Redskins safety D.J. Swearinger has had time to digest the team trading cornerback Kendall Fuller to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for quarterback Alex Smith, he is still upset.
Swearinger sounded off Wednesday on his Twitter account posting three tweets before deleting two of them.
Norman misses practice after questioning role with Redskins
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Josh Norman spent practice casually riding an exercise bike on the sideline of the Washington Redskins' indoor facility.
Coach Jay Gruden said Norman's knee was sore. The cornerback insisted nothing was wrong.
Nothing better sums up the Redskins' predicament as they prepare for the final three weeks of the NFL season already eliminated from the NFC playoff race at 5-8.
Banged-up Redskins prepare for 2nd consecutive Thursday game
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — As Josh Norman's eyes darted back and forth, they kept going back to the TV showing NFL games unfolding in real time.
Minutes after a rare Sunday afternoon practice wrapped up, the Washington Redskins cornerback couldn't help but marvel at another turnover the NFC East-leading Philadelphia Eagles forced in their rout of the Chicago Bears.
Revamped Skins defense ranks 31st in points allowed in NFL
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — So much for that offseason overhaul of the Washington Redskins defense, a unit that even cornerback Josh Norman acknowledged after a recent game played like "trash."
They fired their old defensive coordinator. They spent first-, second- and third-round draft picks on that side of the ball. They added free agents there, too.
With Thielen leading the way, Vikings offense is thriving
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — Case Keenum scrambled to his left out of the pocket to evade the pass rush before setting his feet to throw and setting his sight on Adam Thielen, aiming to add to Minnesota's healthy lead early in the third quarter at Washington.
Redskins battling inconsistency as they prepare for Saints
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — When the emotional leader of the Washington Redskins tried to explain the latest dip in their roller-coaster season, the diagnosis wasn't pretty.
"I guess we got too high on ourselves for whatever reason," safety D.J. Swearinger said after the Redskins followed an emotional victory at Seattle with a 38-30 loss at home to Minnesota. "We just weren't ready to play."

Norman: Skins DBs were ‘like trash’ in 38-30 loss to Vikings
LANDOVER, Md. (AP) — Josh Norman did not mince words when assessing how poorly he and other Washington Redskins defensive backs performed in a 38-30 loss to Case Keenum and the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
"We played like trash in the secondary," Norman said. "We really did."
Josh Norman trying to raise money for ‘ignored’ Puerto Rico
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Josh Norman doesn't believe enough attention is being paid to the situation hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico and is trying to change that.
LANDOVER The Washington Redskins will be without three significant pieces of their offensive line Sunday when they take on the Dallas Cowboys at FedEx Field.
Left tackle Trent Williams (knee soreness) and right guard Brandon Scherff (MCL) were announced out after being listed as questionable. Center Spencer Long (quad tendinitis) was ruled out on Friday.
Bryant, Norman now ‘frenemies’ after starring in dueling ads
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Dez Bryant and Josh Norman have exchanged some not-so-friendly words, some bumps and some shoves.
Maybe before they face off Sunday, they'll exchange a couple of notes on their cell phones.
ASHBURN Doctors cleared Redskins cornerback Josh Norman (fractured rib) to play Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. He was listed on Friday's injury report as questionable.
Norman missed the Redskins' previous two games with a fractured rib.
"We still have to make sure that he's okay after practice today and there's no repercussions tomorrow," Redskins coach Jay Gruden said. "But it looks like he's going to fine."
ASHBURN Advertising money helps heal all wounds.
In the offseason, when one of the top smartphone makers approached Josh Norman and Dez Bryant about shooting a couple of commercials poking fun at their rancorous rivalry, the Redskins cornerback had to think about it.
PHILADELPHIA Washington Redskins cornerback Bashaud Breeland will play Monday against the Philadelphia Eagles after being listed questionable with a knee injury.
Meanwhile, safety Deshazor Everett (hamstring) was announced inactive. Cornerback Josh Norman (rib) is out as well, but that's not a surprise, seeing as it was announced Saturday.
Eagles without starting CB Darby, LB Kendricks vs. Redskins
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Eagles were without starting cornerback Ronald Darby for the fifth straight week and starting linebacker Mychal Kendricks for Monday night's game against Washington.
Darby practiced this week for the first time since he dislocated his right ankle in the opener against the Redskins. Darby was listed as inactive and might be ready to play Sunday against San Francisco.
Redskins cornerback Josh Norman to miss second straight game, out vs. Eagles
ASHBURN Redskins cornerback Josh Norman (fractured rib) will miss a second straight game Monday after he was ruled out against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Norman increased his workload throughout the week, including participating in team drills on Friday. But he didn't progress to the point where he would be healthy enough to play on Monday Night Football.
Norman fractured his rib on Oct. 2 against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 4.
ASHBURN The Washington Redskins are getting healthier.
Redskins coach Jay Gruden said Friday that he expects running back Rob Kelley to play Monday against the Philadelphia Eagles. Starting cornerbacks Josh Norman and Bashaud Breeland, meanwhile, increased their workload in practice.
Kelley missed last week's game against the San Francisco 49ers with an ankle injury. Kelley, who also missed Week 3 with a ribs injury, has 131 yards in three games.

Redskins could rely on young defensive backs against Eagles
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Quinton Dunbar takes pride in the way Washington Redskins defensive backs coach Torrian Gray makes every member of the secondary prepare as though he's starting.
"When you get in, you are expected to play like a starter," Dunbar said.
That approach has come in handy this season. Already 2015 All-Pro Josh Norman, fellow cornerback Bashaud Breeland and safety Stefan McClure have gone down with injuries, and second-year safety Su'a Cravens left the team to contemplate retirement.
