Jaguars release benched veteran safety Barry Church
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — The Jacksonville Jaguars have released Barry Church, a safety who was benched last month but who started 27 consecutive games over two seasons.
The Jaguars (4-9) made the move Friday and activated offensive tackle Josh Wells from injured reserve.
Jaguars sign kicker Forbath in case Lambo can’t play
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed place-kicker Kai Forbath in case Josh Lambo can't play against Washington on Sunday because of a groin injury.
Lambo, the most accurate kicker in franchise history, injured his right groin in practice Thursday.
The Jaguars (4-9) placed rookie linebacker Leon Jacobs (quadriceps) on injured reserve to make room for Forbath on the 53-man roster.
Jaguars will be without left tackle Josh Walker vs. Titans
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Jacksonville left tackle Josh Walker is out against the Tennessee Titans, an injured foot and ankle sidelining him for the fourth straight game.
Jaguars defenders Ramsey, Gipson questionable against Colts
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — The Jacksonville Jaguars could be without two starting defensive backs Sunday against Indianapolis.
Cornerback Jalen Ramsey (knee) and safety Tashaun Gipson (ankle) are listed as questionable on the team's injury report. Ramsey and Gipson did not practice Wednesday and Thursday, but were limited participants Friday.
Coach Doug Marrone said earlier in the week he had a "high level of concern" regarding Ramsey's status. Marrone said Friday his concern was "about the same."
Jags turn to former Giants starting OT Flowers vs Steelers
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — The Jacksonville Jaguars are down to their fourth left tackle, starting a player they signed off the streets against Pittsburgh on Sunday.
Coach Doug Marrone says former New York Giants first-round draft pick Ereck Flowers will start in place of Josh Walker, who missed practice all week because of a foot/ankle injury. Walker was listed as doubtful on the injury report Friday. Flowers and Walker alternated series last week at Indianapolis.
Jaguars sign former Giants 1st-rounder OT Ereck Flowers
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — The Jaguars have signed former New York Giants offensive tackle Ereck Flowers and placed left tackle Josh Wells on injured reserve with a groin injury.
Flowers was waived by the Giants on Tuesday after he failed to live up to lofty expectations. He was the ninth overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft. Flowers was moved from left to right tackle this season after the Giants signed Nate Solder, but lost that job to Chad Wheeler after just two games.
Offensive line play proves problematic for Bortles, Jaguars
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Blake Bortles was largely ineffective despite a career-high 430 yards passing against Kansas City. His offensive line was the biggest problem.
The Jacksonville Jaguars failed to give Bortles enough time or protection in a 30-14 loss at the Chiefs on Sunday. Bortles was sacked five times, fumbling once, and hurried way more often.
Jaguars safety Gipson active for AFC title game vs. Patriots
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Jaguars free safety Tashaun Gipson is active for Sunday's AFC championship game against the Patriots.
Gipson had been listed as questionable with a foot injury. The inactive players for Jacksonville are running back Chris Ivory, defensive ends Eli Ankou and Carrol Phillips, linebacker Deon King, and offensive linemen Chris Reed, Josh Walker and Williams Poehls.
London native Eluemunor active for Ravens’ game vs. Jaguars
LONDON (AP) — Baltimore Ravens rookie offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor, born in London, is active for the first time in the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium.
Eluemunor, a fifth-round draft pick out of Texas A&M, was 12 when he saw the first NFL game played in London on television and decided he wanted to play football.
Jaguars place WR Dede Westbrook on IR, claim S Calvin Pryor
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — The Jacksonville Jaguars have placed rookie receiver Dede Westbrook on injured reserve with a core muscle injury and claimed former first-round draft pick Calvin Pryor off waivers from Cleveland.
Left tackle Penn out for Raiders against Texans
HOUSTON (AP) — Star left tackle Donald Penn is out with a knee injury for the Oakland Raiders in their AFC wild-card playoff game against the Houston Texans on Saturday.
With Penn out, the Raiders will look to Menelik Watson to protect third-string quarterback Connor Cook's blind side. Cook is making his first NFL start.
Penn has played 160 consecutive regular-season games, which is tied with Cleveland's Joe Thomas for the longest active streak for an NFL offensive lineman.
Miller out for Texans, Green missing for Bengals
HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Texans are without running back Lamar Miller on Saturday night against the Cincinnati Bengals, who won't have receiver A.J. Green.
Miller, who hasn't missed a game this season, injured his ankle late in last week's win over the Jaguars. Green told reporters that he'd play in this game earlier this week after missing four games with a hamstring injury. But he was among the inactive players on Saturday night amid reports that he was unhappy with the decision.
Smith, Wilfork to play when Raiders face Texans
MEXICO CITY (AP) — Cornerback Sean Smith is active for the Oakland Raiders and defensive tackle Vince Wilfork will play for the Houston Texans after being questionable with injuries.
Smith missed the previous game for Oakland with a shoulder injury but will play Monday night against the Texans at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. Wilfork was questionable with a groin injury but will play.
Texas A&M junior linebacker arrested on assault charge
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Texas A&M football player Josh Walker was arrested on charges of assault causing injury to his girlfriend and interfering with an emergency request for assistance, police said Saturday.
Walker, 20, a junior linebacker from Gilmer in East Texas, was booked into the jail Friday night. He was held on $9,000 bond.
