Redskins release defensive lineman Ziggy Hood
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — The Washington Redskins have released veteran defensive lineman Ziggy Hood.
The team announced it cut ties with Hood on Tuesday, but did not make a corresponding roster move to fill his spot on the 53-man roster. The return of cornerback Joshua Holsey off the reserve/non-football injury list with a foot injury or defensive tackle Stacy McGee off the physically unable to perform list following core muscle surgery could be that move.
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden says defensive lineman Stacy McGee and cornerback Joshua Holsey will begin training camp on the physically unable to perform list.
Gruden announced the injury statuses Wednesday during his annual camp-opening news conference ahead of the first on-field workouts Thursday.
Redskins could rely on young defensive backs against Eagles
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Quinton Dunbar takes pride in the way Washington Redskins defensive backs coach Torrian Gray makes every member of the secondary prepare as though he's starting.
"When you get in, you are expected to play like a starter," Dunbar said.
That approach has come in handy this season. Already 2015 All-Pro Josh Norman, fellow cornerback Bashaud Breeland and safety Stefan McClure have gone down with injuries, and second-year safety Su'a Cravens left the team to contemplate retirement.
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Alabama teammates Jonathan Allen and Ryan Anderson have signed their rookie contracts with the Washington Redskins, who have deals with nine of their 10 draft picks.
The only player Washington drafted but has not signed yet is third-round selection Fabian Moreau, a cornerback from UCLA.
The Redskins announced agreements Thursday with first-rounder Allen, a defensive lineman taken 17th overall, and second-rounder Anderson, a linebacker.
