NEWINGTON, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu has signed a bill to name a bridge in honor of a Ruth Griffin, who served on the Executive Council for 20 years.
The new Dover-Newington Bridge on Route 16 has been named the Ruth L. Griffin Bridge.
Griffin, a Republican, also served in the New Hampshire House and Senate.
The 92-year-old Griffin on Thursday thanked her late husband, John Griffin, for motivating her to get into politics.

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan says she will resign effective Jan. 3, 2017, as she prepares for her next job as a U.S. senator.
Because she can't be sworn into the Senate while holding another office, Hassan, a Democrat, is following the precedent set by former Republican Gov. Judd Gregg, who joined the Senate in 1993.
