SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) — Nijal Pearson scored 19 points, including a 3-pointer to cap a 9-0 run in the last five minutes as Texas State broke away from Appalachian State 74-71 Thursday night to regain a piece of the Sun Belt Conference lead and sweep the season series with the Mountaineers.

BOONE, N.C. (AP) — Tyrell Johnson scored 20 points in 16 minutes, leading five into double-digit scoring and Appalachian State routed Louisiana 104-77 on Thursday night.
Appalachian State scored the first 17 points and the situation kept getting better for the Mountaineers. Louisiana committed 12 turnovers in the first half, leading to 17 points off turnovers and a 51-31 halftime lead for the Mountaineers.

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Zac Cuthbertson scored 24 points with seven rebounds and Ajay Sanders scored 14 and Coastal Carolina beat Appalachian State 89-72 on Saturday to hand the Mountaineers their six straight loss.
Coastal Carolina started with a 16-0 run as all five starters entered the scoring column with 13:49 before halftime. The Chanticleers led 43-32 at halftime before App State reduced the deficit to 56-54 on a layup by Tyrell Johnson with 12:48 left but they never got closer.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Laquincy Rideau scored 18 points, Alexis Yetna pulled down a career-best 18 rebounds and added 13 points for his fourth double-double and USF held off a late surge to defeat Appalachian State 76-69 on Saturday.
Xavier Castaneda scored 12 points and was 4-for-4 at the free throw line in the closing minute for USF (7-2) which hadn't played since Nov. 30.

ECU rallied from as many as 13 points back and closed to 81-80 on Gardner's free throw with 1:08 to play. LeDay made his put-back and Gardner iced it with a free throw after the Mountaineers missed a 3 with five seconds left.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Erick Neal scored 37 points, Kevin Hervey added 17 and UT Arlington raced past Appalachian State 84-68 on Friday, advancing to the Sun Belt semifinals.

JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) — Rashad Lindsey hit a jumper with 1:33 left in the game to give Arkansas State the lead and the Red Wolves made it stand up for an 82-79 upset of Appalachian State in a Sun Belt Conference battle Thursday night.
