Boston College and Virginia Tech are looking to remain in the Atlantic Coast Conference divisional races when the teams meet on Saturday.

Virginia Tech looking for redemption against No. 6 Irish
One week after an inexplicable loss, No. 24 Virginia Tech is back in the AP Top 25, coming off a road win against a ranked opponent and looking ahead to its toughest test to date: a prime-time home game against No. 6 Notre Dame.
The Hokies (3-1) knocked then-No. 22 Duke out of the rankings with a 31-14 victory last weekend. The win came one week after a celebrated return to Virginia's talent-rich Tidewater region ended in a 49-35 loss to Old Dominion.
Willis leads Virginia Tech to 31-14 upset of No. 22 Duke
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Virginia Tech's offense hummed right along with backup quarterback Ryan Willis. The defense barely resembled the leaky group that took the blame for a humiliating loss.
There wasn't anything wrong with these Hokies that another trip to Duke couldn't fix.
Willis threw for 332 yards and a career-best three touchdowns in his first start for the Hokies, helping them upset No. 22 Duke 31-14 on Saturday night.
Backup QBs take center stage when No. 22 Duke faces Hokies
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — This will be a battle of the backups.
When No. 22 Duke plays host to Virginia Tech on Saturday night, neither team will have its regular starting quarterback. That means the game might come down to which backup — Quentin Harris of Duke or Ryan Willis of the Hokies — has a better night.

Virginia Tech dismissed DE Trevon Hill from team
BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Virginia Tech has dismissed junior defensive end Trevon Hill from the football team.
Coach Justin Fuente made the announcement Sunday, saying Hill has failed to uphold "the high standards that we have for our student-athletes."
Hill had 11 tackles in three games for the Hokies (2-1), including six tackles and 1½ sacks on Saturday night in their 49-35 loss at Old Dominion.
ODU hosts Virginia Tech, gets rare home game vs Top 25 team
A rare chance for Old Dominion to host a Top 25 team is also an opportunity that hasn't come along in while for No. 13 Virginia Tech: A chance for the Hokies to play in one of Virginia's most fertile recruiting areas.

Jackson’s 2 TD passes help Virginia Tech handle FSU 24-3
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Virginia Tech and coach Justin Fuente notched another season-opening victory against a ranked team.
Florida State and Willie Taggart delivered the program's most inept offensive performance at home in a decade, hardly the start Taggart had hoped for with the Seminoles.
Needless to say, it was easy to tell which Atlantic Coast Conference heavyweight looked like a title contender Monday night.

Tight ends emerging as key pass catchers for Virginia Tech this spring
BLACKSBURG – Drake DeIuliis had the most basic of reasons for leaving the quarterback position behind him when he got to college.
“I could not throw the ball,” DeIuliis said Tuesday before football practice at Virginia Tech, where he is now a redshirt freshman tight end. “I could throw the deep ball, loved throwing the money ball, but then everything short, I would overthrow it or under throw it.”
QB Josh Jackson focused on being more of a leader for Virginia Tech
BLACKSBURG – With a year of starting experience behind him now, Virginia Tech sophomore quarterback Josh Jackson has a much-improved handle on the team’s offensive scheme.
But what really makes Jackson feel a bit more comfortable here in his third year of spring ball with the Hokies is his grasp of Bud Foster’s vaunted and venerable defense.
No. 22 Virginia Tech seeking 10th win in Camping World Bowl vs No. 17 Oklahoma State
ORLANDO, FLA. – Justin Fuente set a high bar in his first season as Virginia Tech’s football coach, delivering the program its first 10-win season since 2011.
For an encore, Fuente has his 22nd-ranked Hokies positioned to do it again – if they can upend No. 17 Oklahoma State in the Camping World Bowl on Thursday.
Clash of styles: Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech to square off
Mike Gundy and Justin Fuente have plenty in common. They were both born in Oklahoma. Both were recruited by Oklahoma State. And both had virtually the same assessment of what awaits them in the Camping World Bowl.
No. 22 Virginia Tech to rely on patchwork offense against No. 17 Oklahoma State in bowl game
ORLANDO, Fla. — Following their practice at an area high school, Virginia Tech’s football team received a full police escort for the 15-minute ride back to its hotel. But with a combination of injuries and defections on their offense, the No. 22 Hokies aren’t likely to find the sailing as smooth Thursday night against No. 17 Oklahoma State in the Camping World Bowl.
Virginia Tech mines North Carolina for key early-signing recruits
Virginia Tech football coach Justin Fuente may have landed the team’s next great quarterback-wide receiver tandem.
Four-stars prospects Quincy Patterson and Tre Turner highlighted the 23-man early signing day class the Hokies announced Wednesday.
Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy, himself a high school football hero, recruited Tech’s Justin Fuente
There’s no shortage of familiarity between Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy and the Virginia Tech football staff. Gundy played college football as a teammate of Hokies’ offensive line coach Vance Vice with the Cowboys. He worked on a staff at OSU with Tech offensive coordinator Brad Cornelsen.
But maybe the most intriguing tie between the Cowboys coach and his opponent in the Dec. 28 Camping World Bowl — Gundy recruited Hokies coach Justin Fuente as a high school prospect in Oklahoma.
Virgnia Tech’s leading rusher Travon McMillian transferring, won’t play in bowl game
Virginia Tech won’t have its leading rusher in the upcoming Camping World Bowl, or next year, for that matter.
Junior tailback Travon McMillian, who rushed for 1,043 yards as a redshrit freshman in 2015, announced on Twitter he will transfer after graduating later this school year.
If Frost isn’t the guy, who might Nebraska pick?
We wouldn't be surprised if at least a few of these coaches are prominent on Nebraska athletic director Bill Moos' radar. Chip Kelly was originally on this list, but reports have him ready to ink a deal with UCLA.
Make it 14: Hokies shut out Cavaliers to win Commonwealth Cup, again
CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia Tech’s beat up defense beat on Virginia.
U.Va.’s surprisingly successful season won’t include a win over its rival.

Late goal-line stand lifts Virginia Tech past Pitt 20-14
BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Cam Phillips had 117 yards receiving and scored the game-winning touchdown, and Virginia Tech's defense kept Pittsburgh out of the end zone on the final play to lift the Hokies to a 20-14 victory over the Panthers on Saturday.
Hokies looking to regroup, return to 10-victory plateau
Virginia Tech quarterback Josh Jackson believes the Hokies still have plenty of reasons to be motivated to finish strong even though back-to-back losses have taken them out of contention for a second consecutive trip to the ACC championship game.
Jackson said if they win their last two regular season games and their bowl game, the Hokies will not only send their seniors out on a high note in their final home game, but they will secure another 10-win season.
Virginia Tech coach on failed plays: ‘We can own that. I can handle that.’
Virginia Tech football coach Justin Fuente understands that fans and media are second-guessing his two failed third- and fourth-and-1 pass calls from Saturday’s loss at Georgia Tech. Fuente has mulled over the decisions more than once since the game ended.
For the second-year Hokies coach, that process begins almost immediately, sitting on the team plane, reviewing the plays on an iPad.
No. 17 Virginia Tech readjusts goals facing Georgia Tech
ATLANTA (AP) — With Virginia Tech's biggest prize now out of reach, it would be easy to get discouraged.
Justin Fuente doesn't want to hear that kind of talk.
The Hokies coach insists there's still so much to play for.
Could Greg Stroman go down as Virginia Tech’s greatest punt returner?
As Greg Stroman broke free for a 91-yard punt return touchdown against North Carolina two weeks ago – “his skinny legs came squirting out” – Virginia Tech coach Justin Fuente briefly took off running down the sideline with him.
“He’s a lot faster than I am. I know that,” Fuente said. “To see him kind of squirt out of the pile there and come down the near sideline, it was hard to control yourself when you get a little bit excited. But I had no chance of staying up with him. None.”
Jackson leads No. 13 Virginia Tech past Duke, 24-3
BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Josh Jackson threw for a touchdown before the weather turned bad, and ran for another after it got really sloppy to keep No. 13 Virginia Tech on track to have its destiny in its control with what coach Justin Fuente called the "gauntlet" ahead.
Jackson, No. 14 Virginia Tech routs North Carolina 59-7
BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Justin Fuente was ever the coach after Virginia Tech's blowout victory over North Carolina in a game in which the Hokies dominated in every phase.
"I don't know about that," Fuente said when asked if the performance was Virginia Tech's most complete of the season.
It would be hard to argue against such an assessment, though.
Josh Jackson threw three touchdown passes and No. 14 Virginia Tech scored on fumble, interception and punt returns in the 59-7 rout Saturday.
Midseason report card: Virginia Tech gets high marks for 5-1 start
In his second season at Virginia Tech, Justin Fuente continues to make all the right calls, especially at quarterback. Fuente and offensive coordinator Brad Cornelsen tapped redshirt freshman Josh Jackson to be the starter, then prepared him for the job. Fuente and his crew also had the Hokies ready for a challenging season opener against West Virginia, and they’ve avoided any major slip-ups against lesser opponents.
No. 16 Virginia Tech beats Boston College 23-10
BOSTON (AP) — It might have looked easy for three quarters or so.
For Virginia Tech coach Justin Fuente, though, it was enough to give him indigestion.
"Where we're at as a team is, it's going to be a three-and-a-half hour stomach ache," he said after the 16th-ranked Hokies bounced back from a loss to defending national champion Clemson by beating Boston College 23-10 on Saturday night. "That's where we're at, and just how it's going to be."
No. 16 Virginia Tech ready to bounce back with trip to Boston College
Justin Fuente knows a thing or two about bouncing back. Fuente, in his second year as Virginia Tech’s coach, went 4-0 after a loss in his first season with the Hokies. Going back to his tenure at Memphis, Fuente has won eight of his past 10 games when his team was defeated its previous time out.
Boston College offense runs on legs of Jon Hilliman and A.J. Dillon
Virginia Tech coach Justin Fuente was captivated by freshman tailback A.J. Dillon’s running style before he put on a Boston College uniform.
“I saw the freshman (Dillon) in high school and I was really impressed with him and I thought he had the chance to be a really good player,” said Fuente during the ACC coaches’ conference call on Wednesday.
“I still do after watching him play a couple of games.”
