Wertz scores career-high 33, Santa Clara beats Jackson State
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Trey Wertz scored a career-high 33 points on 9-of-15 shooting Thursday night to help Santa Clara beat Jackson State 81-70.
Wertz made 4 of 6 from 3-point range and 11 of 13 at the foul line. Josip Vrankic added 19 points and Josh Martin had 14 rebounds to go with six points.
The Broncos (2-5) never trailed in the game and had their largest lead at 69-57. It was Santa Clara's second win in a row after opening the season with five straight losses.
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) — Justin Johnson had his fifth-straight double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead Western Kentucky to a 79-62 win over Boston College on Tuesday night in a first-round game of the NIT.
Taveion Hollingsworth added 18 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals for the Hilltoppers (25-10), a four-seed. Darius Thompson had 17 points, eight assists and six rebounds.
FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Taveion Hollingsworth scored 22 points to lead five players in double figures and third-seeded Western Kentucky beat No. 6 seed UAB 98-70 in a Conference USA Tournament quarterfinal game Thursday night.
The Hilltoppers (23-9) advance to play second-seeded Old Dominion in a semifinal game Friday. Western Kentucky thoroughly avenged a 101-73 beating at the hands of the Blazers on March 3 to end the regular season.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) — Taveion Hollingsworth scored 20 points and Justin Johnson added 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Western Kentucky completed a season sweep of Old Dominion, 88-66 to claim sole possession of second place in Conference USA Saturday night.
Western Kentucky (22-7, 14-2) came into the game tied with the Monarchs (22-6, 13-3) for second place behind Middle Tennessee. The Hilltoppers face the Blue Raiders Thursday and close out the regular season Saturday at UAB.

Western Kentucky dominates Rice in 85-66 win
HOUSTON (AP) — Darius Thompson scored 18 points and dished out 10 assists, Justin Johnson also got a double-double and Western Kentucky dominated Rice in an 85-66 win Saturday night.
Thompson had four 3-pointers and finished 6 of 8 from the field, while Johnson added 16 points to go with 13 rebounds. Dwight Coleby and Josh Anderson added 12 points apiece and Lamonte Bearden had 11 for Western Kentucky, which shot 56 percent from the field, including 10 for 18 from long range.

DENTON, Texas (AP) — Taveion Hollingsworth tossed in 30 points and Darius Thompson scored nine of his 28 points in overtime to lift Western Kentucky to a 102-94 victory over North Texas on Thursday night.
Western Kentucky tops FIU 83-76
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) — Justin Johnson had 25 points and a career-high seven rebounds, and Western Kentucky beat Florida International 83-76 on Saturday night.
Johnson passed Greg Smith into sixth place on WKU's all-time rebounding list and moved into 10th for minutes played.

Johnson helps Western Kentucky overcome UTEP 72-60
EL PASO, Texas (AP) — Justin Johnson scored 20 points and had 12 rebounds to lead Western Kentucky to a 72-60 victory over UTEP on Thursday night, the Hilltoppers' fifth straight road victory.
The win left the Hilltoppers (16-6, 8-1) alone in second in Conference USA with Old Dominion (7-2) losing to first-place Middle Tennessee (9-1) earlier Thursday. WKU has won four consecutive conference games for the first time since 2013-2014.
HUNTINGTON - Just about every time Western Kentucky University's Justin Johnson caught the basketball Saturday night Marshall's Rondale Watson was there.
Johnson is one of Conference USA's best inside players, a 6-foot-7, 245-pound senior all-conference forward who had 27 points when the Hilltoppers won a Jan. 6 men's basketball game, 112-87, in Cam Henderson Center. He has strong power moves, and he can make outside shots too. He has more than 1,400 career points.
HUNTINGTON - Western Kentucky University forwards Justin Johnson and Dwight Coleby dominated play in the lane when the Hilltoppers whipped the Marshall Thundering Herd, 112-87, in a Jan. 6 men's basketball game at Cam Henderson Center.

Western Kentucky wins 73-63 to stay unbeaten in C-USA
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Lamonte Bearden scored 19 points and Western Kentucky remained undefeated in Conference USA with a 73-63 victory over Charlotte on Saturday night.
Charlotte scored the first four points but the Hilltoppers scored the next nine and led the rest of the way, leading 28-20 at halftime with Bearden scoring 11 points.
The 49ers got as close as five, 44-39, after a Jon Davis dunk with 12:19 left but an 8-0 run built WKU's lead back up to 14 with three minutes left.
Johnson, Thompson help WKU hold off Old Dominion 75-68
NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Justin Johnson and Darius Thompson combined for 49 points and 9 of Western Kentucky's 10 3-pointers as the Hilltoppers defeated Old Dominion 75-68 Thursday night in a clash of Conference USA unbeatens.
Western Kentucky (12-5, 4-0) trailed by two at the break but opened the second half on a 20-9 tear to lead 50-41 with 12:22 left to play and held on to win in Norfolk for the first time since 1991.

HUNTINGTON - Marshall's Thundering Herd can win without major statistical contributions from 6-foot-9 Ajdin Penava, but doesn't want it becoming a habit.
Penava was ailing last weekend when Marshall beat Louisiana Tech. He attempted to play and was unable to do much. He's getting his strength back and expects to be ready to go Saturday when Western Kentucky University visits the Herd for another Conference USA men's basketball game.
Coleby, Thompson spark Western Kentucky to 82-66 win
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) — Darius Thompson hit the first of his four 3-pointers to spark a 10-0 run early and Western Kentucky cruised from there, defeating Southern Miss 82-66 on Saturday.
The game was 2-2 when Thompson and Taveion Hollingsworth made 3-pointers on consecutive possessions, then Justin Johnson and Dwight Coleby scored on the next two possessions for a 12-2 lead in less than 90 seconds.
Coleby’s late block helps W Kentucky edge Louisiana Tech
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) — Dwight Coleby scored 16 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and had a huge block in the last five seconds as Western Kentucky held on to defeat Louisiana Tech 69-68 on Thursday night in a Conference USA opener.
The Hilltoppers (9-5) led for more than 39 minutes only to see the lead slip away with just 18 seconds remaining when DaQuan Bracey scored on a drive to put the Bulldogs up 68-67.
Hollingsworth leads balanced Hilltoppers past Indiana State

Thompson was 6 of 10 from the floor and made three 3-pointers, and Johnson was 5-of-11 shooting from the field. Lamonte Bearden chipped in 15 points for Western Kentucky (6-2), which shot 28 of 54 (52 percent) from the floor. Taveion Hollingsworth added 13 points and Dwight Coleby had 10 for the Hilltoppers.

Six Hilltoppers scored in double figures for the first time since Jan. 21, 2017. Taveion Hollingsworth was one point away from seven players having at least 10 points, which hasn't been done in the program since 2001.
