ATLANTA (AP) — Ahmed Hill scored 15 points, Kerry Blackshear Jr. added 14 points and 10 rebounds, and No. 9 Virginia Tech overcame a terrible shooting performance to beat Georgia Tech 52-49 on Wednesday night.
The Hokies (14-1, 3-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) won their ninth straight game for the school's best start to a season since the 1982-83 team had an identical record. They never trailed after Georgia Tech led in the first minute.
Outlaw helps No. 10 Hokies down Fighting Irish, 81-66
BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Ty Outlaw hit the first 3-pointer, and it became his turn to carry the No. 10 Hokies in a game when four guys took turns.
"He fuels me and we feed off each other," Outlaw said of Ahmed Hill, who made consecutive baskets before Outlaw's first 3-pointer from the corner, right in front of the Virginia Tech bench, splashed through in an 81-66 victory against Notre Dame on Tuesday.
"If one of us is going, we look at the other like, 'Hey, come on.' That's what we do," Outlaw said.

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Nickeil Alexander-Walker and No. 13 Virginia Tech have played tough team defense so far this season.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — Virginia Tech handled some late pressure to earn a big victory Saturday night.
The 13th-ranked Hokies withstood a second-half rally from Washington to earn a 73-61 win in the Air Force Reserve Boardwalk Classic.
Nickell Alexander-Walker scored 24 points for Virginia Tech (9-1), which won its fourth straight since a one-point loss at Penn State on Nov. 27. Kerry Blackshear, Justin Robinson and Ahmed Hill scored 10 points apiece.
Robinson leads No. 15 Hokies to easy win over VMI
BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Virginia Tech is trying to add improved defense to its already potent offense.
Justin Robinson scored 18 points and the No. 15 Hokies held Virginia Military Institute to just eight first-half field goals in cruising to an 89-68 victory on Wednesday night.
Robinson hit a trio of 3-pointers for Virginia Tech (7-1), which won its 21st straight regular-season nonconference game at home. The Hokies topped VMI (5-5), which has lost three straight, for the seventh consecutive time.
Hill leads No. 13 Hokies in rout of St. Francis
BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Ahmed Hill and No. 13 Virginia Tech knew their strong finish to the first half wasn't going to be enough to satisfy coach Buzz Williams.
The Hokies got the message at halftime and quickly pulled away from the Red Flash for a 75-37 victory on Saturday.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Justin Robinson saw his Virginia Tech teammate Ahmed Hill coming off the floor after a disappointing first half.
"We're going to need you to win," Robinson told him.
Hill certainly listened and was instrumental in the 16th-ranked Hokies' first in-season tournament title in coach Buzz Williams' five seasons with an 89-83 victory over No. 23 Purdue at the Charleston Classic on Sunday night.

Defensive improvement gave Virginia Tech a big lift late in the regular season, helping the Hokies reach the 10-win plateau for the third consecutive season in the rugged Atlantic Coast Conference.
Virginia Tech also made its second straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament, the first time it has done that since 1985-86.
That's the good news. The bad news is the Hokies were eliminated in the first round of the tourney for the second straight year, falling to Alabama 86-83.

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Virginia Tech coach Buzz Williams admitted that he and his team only focus on increments of 24 hours.
"Just be consumed with today," he said.
That approach certainly has been working.
Justin Robinson and Kerry Blackshear Jr. scored 14 points each to lift the Hokies to a 65-58 victory over No. 15 Clemson on Wednesday night.
Robinson, Alexander-Walker spark Virginia Tech’s blowout win
ATLANTA (AP) — Virginia Tech coach Buzz Wiliams loves how his team has changed its approach to scouting opponents on the road.
He can only hope it keeps up. The Hokies, at 5-3, have a single-season high in ACC road wins for the first time since joining the league in 2004-05.
"I think they've been very disciplined in how they've executed it," Williams said. "Over the last three games it's just kind of continued to morph and grow and develop. I think it's a credit to our staff and our kids."
Up next for NC State is rival North Carolina, and if the Wolfpack can't correct the defensive issues from the first matchup in Chapel Hill, there will likely be a different result.
What's really concerning is the fact that defense was the major reason why State couldn't knock off Virginia Tech earlier this week.

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Virginia Tech spent the entirety of its past two practices working on its defense.
So, of course, the Hokies put on a clinic on offense Wednesday evening.
"It's counterintuitive," Virginia Tech coach Buzz Williams admitted. "It's a paradox. It's ironic."
Getting a career-high 32 points from point guard Justin Robinson, the hot-shooting Hokies notched an 85-75 victory over NC State.

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Kerry Blackshear Jr. called Virginia Tech's game against No. 10 North Carolina a "really big character test," coming on the heels of a loss at home against Florida State.
That was a game, Blackshear said, in which the Hokies "really didn't just come to play."
They passed this test with flying colors.

Clarke scores 16, Virginia Tech beats Ole Miss 83-80 in OT
OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — Chris Clarke scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds off the bench on Saturday as Virginia Tech rallied from a 16-point deficit in the second half to defeat Mississippi 83-80 in overtime.
Virginia Tech (7-1) placed five players in double figures, led by Kerry Blackshear Jr. with 17 points. Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Justin Robinson had 13 points apiece, while Justin Bibbs added 11. The Hokies have won five consecutive games.
BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Virginia Tech squandered several double digit leads and a scrappy Wake Forest squad battled back to beat the Hokies 89-84 on Saturday afternoon.
Bryant Crawford led the Demon Deacons (18-12, 9-9 ACC) with 26 points and Austin Arians added 15. Five players scored in double figures for Wake Forest.
"I thought we got contributions from a lot of different guys," head coach Danny Manny said after the game.
BRIDGEPORT — The Fairfield men put forth a better fight than their first meeting with Monmouth this year. However, it still was far from good enough.
Like their showdown last month in New Jersey, the Stags were no match for the clear-cut best team in the MAAC. Monmouth jumped out to a double-digit lead and coasted past the Stags 82-62 Tuesday before 1,816 fans at Webster Bank Arena.

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. (AP) — Justin Robinson scored 25 points and Monmouth overtook Rider in the final two minutes to earn a school record 10th consecutive victory 74-69 on Monday night.
