Collins leads South Florida past East Carolina 72-68 in OT
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — David Collins had 21 points as South Florida narrowly defeated East Carolina 72-68 in overtime on Sunday.
Mayan Kiir had 13 points for South Florida (17-6, 7-4 American Athletic Conference), which earned its fifth consecutive victory. Laquincy Rideau added 12 points. Justin Brown had 10 points for the home team.
Isaac Fleming had 14 points for the Pirates (9-14, 2-9). Shawn Williams added 13 points. K.J. Davis had 11 points.
Carlton’s double-double leads UConn to 76-52 win over ECU
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — UConn coach Dan Hurley benched senior star Jalen Adams early in the second half and the rest of his Huskies responded by routing East Carolina.
Sophomore forward Josh Carlton had his best night in a Connecticut uniform, scoring 20 points and grabbing 16 rebounds in a 76-52 win over the Pirates on Sunday.
"Anytime we can, we want Jalen on the floor, but having all the young guys out on the floor was very, very nice," Carlton said.
Gardner leads E. Carolina past Maryland-Eastern Shore 70-43
GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Jayden Gardner scored 22 points and K.J. Davis, Seth LeDay and Shawn Williams all scored 10 points and East Carolina beat Maryland-Eastern Shore 70-47 on Sunday.
LeDay made a pair of free throws, East Carolina (6-4) led 4-2 and never trailed again. The free throws began an 11-0 run that included a 3-pointer by Williams. The Pirates shot 15 of 27 (55.6) from the field in the first half and led 42-21 at intermission.
East Carolina rallies past Appalachian State 83-81
GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Jayden Gardner scored 22 points, Seth LeDay added 18 and his go-ahead put-back with 18 seconds left helped East Carolina rally to beat Appalachian State 83-81 on Friday night.
ECU rallied from as many as 13 points back and closed to 81-80 on Gardner's free throw with 1:08 to play. LeDay made his put-back and Gardner iced it with a free throw after the Mountaineers missed a 3 with five seconds left.
Gardner, LeDay lift East Carolina over Lamar 84-78 in OT
GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Freshman Jayden Gardner grabbed 10 rebounds and scored eight of his 30 points in overtime to lift East Carolina over Lamar 84-78 on Sunday in the first meeting of the teams.
Seth LeDay scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds and Tyler Foster, Tae Hardy and K.J. Davis added 10 points apiece for the Pirates (2-1).
