Olympic champ John Shuster wins 7th national curling title
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) — Olympic champion John Shuster won another U.S. curling title when his team beat Rich Ruohonen's 8-4 on Saturday.
It's the seventh national title for Shuster, who led the U.S. team to a gold medal at last year's Olympics. Shuster's team at this event included two of his fellow Olympic champions in Matt Hamilton and John Landsteiner. Chris Plys joined the team this season.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) _ Stryker Corp. (SYK) on Tuesday reported fourth-quarter net income of $2.07 billion, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier.
The Kalamazoo, Michigan-based company said it had net income of $5.44 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, were $2.18 per share.
The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 13 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $2.15 per share.
Kent State-WMU game pushed back from Tuesday to Thursday
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) — Western Michigan's basketball game against Kent State on Tuesday night has been postponed until Thursday because of inclement weather.
The schools announced the change Monday, when significant snow fell in Michigan. Kent State said it was prepared to depart its campus after practice Monday, but the weather interfered with plans.

Michigan to install flashing signs to stop wrong-way drivers
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) — The Michigan Department of Transportation plans to install a new warning system on highway ramps with the goal of reducing deadly wrong-way crashes by alerting drivers with bright flashing lights.
The flashing lights are being installed at exit ramps on U.S. 131 in Kalamazoo and I-194 in Battle Creek, said Nick Schirripa, a department spokesman. The locations were picked because of the traffic volume and crash history, he said.

Woman seeks new trial in 2015 southwest Michigan slaying
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) — A woman who pleaded guilty but mentally ill in the 2015 southwestern Michigan killing of a woman who was dating her ex-boyfriend wants a new trial.
Theresa Petto entered the plea after several days of her murder trial in the shooting death of 25-year-old Rachel Drafta in the Kalamazoo-area community of Portage. Petto, now 47, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, but she later sought to withdraw her plea.
