Auburn puts up over 500 yards of offense, routs Liberty 53-0
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — It was Senior Day inside Jordan-Hare Stadium, but it wasn't just the graduating Tigers dominating in Auburn's home finale.
Seth Williams caught five passes for 109 yards and a touchdown, Kam Martin ran for 116 yards and Auburn's defense pitched a shutout in a 53-0 victory over Liberty on Saturday.
Auburn (7-4) held a pass-happy Liberty (4-6) offense in check, recording its first FBS shutout in 10 years (34-0 win over Louisiana Monroe in 2008).
Auburn’s biggest concern: The running game of all things
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — The Auburn Tigers can usually be counted on for a strong running game with tailbacks routinely churning out 1,000-yard seasons and 100-yard games.
Now, an unproductive ground game is the biggest concern for Gus Malzahn and the eighth-ranked Tigers going into Saturday night's game at Mississippi State.
It's even more of a pressing issue with leading rusher JaTarvious Whitlow and two starting offensive linemen battling injuries.
No. 7 Auburn’s new-look ground game a work in progress
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Auburn's running game is unsurprisingly a work in progress.
With a new tailback and an overhauled offensive line, the seventh-ranked Tigers still managed an opening, 21-16 win over No. 9 Washington despite struggles running the ball.
Auburn signee Asa Martin named Alabama’s Mr. Football
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Writethru
Auburn signee Asa Martin is already following in the footsteps of predecessor Kerryon Johnson in one regard.
Like Johnson, Martin was named Alabama's Mr. Football. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound running back, who graduated in December and has already enrolled at Auburn, was honored Tuesday by the Alabama Sports Writers Association at a luncheon put on by the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association.
Postgame analysis of Auburn's loss to Georgia:
THREE THINGS WORTH TALKING ABOUT
Injured Auburn star Kerryon Johnson gave it a try Saturday, but he struggled before the Tigers turned to Kam Martin and Malik Miller at running back.
Johnson, who hurt his shoulder and rib in the previous week’s win over Alabama, rushed eight times in the first half for 16 yards. He gained 28 more yards in the second half to finish with 44 yards on 13 attempts, although 15 of that came on one carry.
Auburn’s spark: How ‘explosive’ Kam Martin loves ‘change the pace’ tailback role
AUBURN — To listen to his coaches and teammates talk, Kam Martin might just be considered the most explosive tailbacks on the Auburn roster.
While Kerryon Johnson is clearly the most productive and getting all the Heisman talk while Kamryn Pettway came into the 2017 season as the biggest, Martin is the spot on the running back depth chart where big plays are born.
AUBURN — Auburn doesn’t need a sign or a hashtag. They want Bama.
After seemingly oversleeping through its 11 a.m. start, Auburn cruised past an overmatched Louisiana-Monroe 42-14 in a glorified exhibition game before the winner-take-all Iron Bowl next weekend.
Auburn utilized its quick strike offense to build a comfortable lead and stroll past a .500 Sun Belt Conference opponent with the fifth-worst defense among FBS opponents.
AUBURN — Auburn’s head coach made it clear Wednesday that he’s expecting more speed to replace the production of Kamryn Pettway.
With Pettway announced as injured for what is likely the remainder of the regular season, Gus Malzahn said he’s expecting the 5-foot-10, 182-pound Kam Martin to be the primary backup tailback.
“I think it starts with Kam Martin,” Malzahn said Wednesday morning on the Southeastern Conference coaches media teleconference.
AUBURN — Kamryn Pettway has suffered another injury, and this one might cause him to miss the rest of the regular season.
Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn confirmed Tuesday morning that Pettway has suffered a fracture to his shoulder blade and will not make the trip to College Station for a game at Texas A&M on Saturday.
Auburn tailback Martin ends difficult week with career game
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Kam Martin couldn't hold back the tears at least once during a trying week. Sleep was terribly hard to come by, too.
The tailback for No. 12 Auburn had to sweat out a week where his parents and little sister were stuck in their Port Arthur, Texas home, with no power and diminishing supplies. Martin's aunt, Sarah Henry, died because she had no way to get to her regular dialysis appointments.
Auburn tailback Kerryon Johnson leaves with leg injury
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Auburn tailback Kerryon Johnson left against Georgia Southern with an apparent hamstring injury.
Johnson pulled up 34 yards into what appeared a sure touchdown run in the second quarter Saturday night. He went down to the ground and then limped off the field, favoring his right leg.
Auburn's radio announcers reported it was a hamstring injury and said he wouldn't return in the game.
No. 21 Auburn runs over No. 17 Arkansas, 56-3
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — From the first snap, Auburn's running game couldn't be stopped.
The result was an unexpected rout that made the Tigers look like SEC contenders and left Arkansas coach Bret Bielema searching for answers.
Eli Stove broke free for a 78-yard touchdown run on Auburn's first play, giving the No. 21 Tigers momentum they never lost in a dominant 56-3 victory over No. 17 Arkansas on Saturday night.
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Auburn's depleted backfield took another blow when coach Gus Malzahn dismissed top running back Jovon Robinson from the team.
Malzahn said he kicked off Robinson, the team's top returning rusher, on Wednesday before the Tigers' first practice of preseason camp.
"He did not meet my standards or expectations of what it takes to be an Auburn Tiger football player," the coach said. "We're going to have zero distractions on this team this year. I've...
